Crime against Women • The National Crime Report Board (NCRB) presented a dreadful image of women's safety in India. • An astounding 4,45,256 incidences of crime against women were revealed by the data in 2022; this translates to about 51 FIRs every hour. • Compared to 2020, which reported 3,71,503 instances, and 2021, which recorded 4,28,278 cases, this represented a significant increase. •According to the NCRB's results, there were 66.4 crimes committed for every lakh people, and the charge sheet rating was 75.8. • The majority of offenses are classified as cruelty by spouses or family members.

The state now has a mitigation strategy. The Odisha government authorized a plan in July to plant 19 lakh palm trees in an effort to combat lightning-related fatalities, which were classified as a state-specific catastrophe in 2015. How does it help? Palm trees are taller than other trees, palm palms are especially well-suited to act as lightning conductors. They can absorb lightning and lessen its direct impact on the ground since they are highly moist and contain sap.
