Some useful grammar on writing complaint letter tasks. ❗️'Write a letter to a landlord complaining about the furniture'. Normally when you ask someone to do something, you use a verb (Can you fix the heating?). 👉🏿 To be less direct, you might use the Passive (The carpet needs to be cleaned) or the less formal 'The carpet needs cleaning'. ❗️❗️❗️ But you can also use a NOUN - the carpet needs A CLEAN, and this applies to a lot of verbs. 🎉 The floor needs a clean. 🎉 The windows need a wash. 🎉 The dishes need a rinse. 🎉 The carpet needs a vacuum. 🎉 The hallway needs a mop. 🎉 The tiles need a scrub. 🎉 The mirror needs a polish. There are also some idiomatic synonyms for 'needs' for example 'it could do with (a clean)' or “could use + Noun”. ☝🏿 This shirt could with an iron. ☝🏿 The living room could use a tidy-up.
