Hooking up in bathrooms and beneath stairwells, business suits would convene with janitors; Wall Street types with “Jewish men with yarmulkes”; tourists with executives; and white collar with blue collar in a way that nearly transcended class and race, all away from prying eyes.
“Stop number one on a sex tour of the World Trade Center would be the men’s room on the lower level near the entrance to the PATH trains,” Miller recounts in the film, chronicling his arrival to New York in the 1970s, shortly after the modern gay liberation movement kicked off. Another voice corroborates, describing that “all the way in the back, where there were ten urinals” and that “in the middle of the day, there’d be five to seven guys just jerking off.” The film gives the impression that this kind of activity, which happened any time of day despite how bustling the building was, had been going on as long as WTC had alcoves to squirrel away in.

The trouble with AI doomsday marketing is that if you take these guys seriously, then we need to ban the chatbots immediately. We need to shut down Anthropic and OpenAI. We need to put Altman and Amodei in jail. We’re not doing that because none of this is serious. This is complete nonsense from cranks. And everyone sort of knows that. Well, maybe we could put Altman and Amodei in jail for everything else. The goal of this campaign is to get a regulatory moat around the chatbot industry — regulations that only the big guys can meet. And not do anything about the actual problems with AI.
