The primary objective in fulfilling acts of worship and commands is not to go through hardships and burdens - although that may be an effect in certain cases due to reasons that necessitate that, as it could be an element attached to it. The commands of Allāh, His rights that He has imposed upon His servants, and the laws that He has legislated for them are the delight of the eyes and the hearts, and the bliss and happiness of the souls; through that, the hearts and souls find happiness, success and excellence in their worldly affairs and the hereafter. In reality, there is no true joy, happiness, pleasure, or bliss except by way of this, as Allāh, the Most High, says: يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدْ جَآءَتْكُم مَّوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَشِفَآءٌ لِّمَا فِى ٱلصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ (٥٧) قُلْ بِفَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ ۦ فَبِذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا۟ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ (٥٨) “O mankind, there has come to you instruction from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts and guidance and mercy for the believers. Say, ‘In the bounty of Allāh and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice’; it is better than [the wealth] that they accumulate.” [Yūnus: 57 - 58] Regarding this verse, Abu Sa'īd al- Khudri (radiallahu anhu) said: "The bounty of Allāh is the Qur'ān, and His Mercy is that He made you among its people." Hilal ibn Yisāf said: "Through the Islam that He guided you to, and through the Qur'ān that He taught you, it is better than what you accumulate from gold and silver." Similarly, Ibn 'Abbās, Al- Hasan, and Qatādah said: "His bounty is Islam, and His Mercy is the Qur'ān." And a group from among the pious predecessors said: "His bounty is the Qur'ān, and His Mercy is Islam." Upon detailed analysis, both of them have the attributes of bounty and mercy, and they are the two favours that Allāh bestowed upon His Messenger (ﷺ). Allah, the Most High, said: وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ "And thus We have sent to you [O Muhammad] an inspiration [this Qur'ān] of Our Command. You did not know what is the Book nor [what is] faith." [Al-Shura: 52] Undoubtedly, Allāh raised those whom He raised by this Book and true faith, and debased whomever He debased due to a lack of it. 🗣️👂🏼Listening to beautiful recitation in a pleasant voice was a desired practice among the Salaf 🎓On the authority of ʿAbdullah bin Masʿūd - raḍi-Allāhu ʿanh- who said: The Prophet - sall-Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam - said to me: 💭❝Recite (the Qurʾān) to me.❞ I said: ❝(How) should I recite it to you when (the Qurʾān) was revealed upon you? M❞ He said: ❝That is because I like to hear it from someone other than myself.❞ So I recited Surah an-Nisāʾ for him, until I reached the point: 📜﴿فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ شَهِيدًا﴾ So what will happen (on the Day of Judgment) when We will (choose) a witness from each nation and (then) We will present you (O Prophet) as a witness over them all? He said: ❝Stop.❞ And his eyes were wet (with tears). 📚— Bukhārī, Muslim and other compilers of the Sunan collected it 🎓On the authority of Anas - raḍi-Allāhu ʿanh - that Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī - raḍi-Allāhu ʿanh - was reciting one night when the Messenger of Allāh - sall-Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam - heard him while passing by. When he came in the morning and was told, he said: 💭❝If I had known (that the you O Messenger of Allah were listening), I would have adorned it and made it more engaging for you.❞ 📚— Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated it with an authentic chain of transmission 🎓It was narrated from Abū Hurayrah - raḍi-Allāhu ʿanh - that the Messenger of Allāh - sall-Allāhu ʿalayhi wa sallam - heard the recitation of Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī and said: 💭❝Surely he has been given a melodious voice like Dāwūd.❞ 🎓Abū Salamah said: 💭❝ʿUmar bin al-Khaṭṭāb - raḍi-Allāhu ʿanh - used to say to Abū Mūsā when he would be sitting in the gathering: 'O Abū Mūsā! Remind us of our Lord.' So Abū Mūsā would sit in the gathering and recite to him in a melodies voice.❞ 📚— Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it with an authentic chain of transmission 🎓an-Nawawī - raḥimahullāh - said: 💭❝Know that many groups of the Salaf used to ask the skilled reciters with pleasant voices to recite the Qurʾān for them and they would listen to it. And there is agreement upon the desirability of this act. And this is the habit of the best of worshipers and the righteous servants of Allāh.❞ 📚— aṭ-Ṭibyān fi Ādāb Ḥamlah al-Qurʾān page 114 Translated & Compiled by Zubayr bin Muḥammad ʿAbbāsī

The 1st of Muharram is not a yearly festival for us Muslims. Our only yearly festivals are Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adhá. ‎Neither is it a day for fasting or special prayers and supplication, unless you are fasting it as part of your normal fasting routine or simply because fasting the month of Muharram is recommended and not because it's the 1st specifically. ‎Not only is it an unorthodox act but also an imitation of the ways of non-Muslims—something that we have commanded to avoid. ‎Hence, if you're celebrating it please stop and if you're fasting because it's the "new year", then break your fast. And stop congratulating others on its advent. ‎It's simple really: if there is no evidence for it in the Qur'an or the authentic Sunnah as understood by the Prophet's ﷺ Companions —may Allah be pleased with them—then it's not a part of Islam. ‎May Allāh rectify and forgive us.
