The phenomenon of hoisting new converts onto a pedestal needs to stop. All the fanfare that comes with a so-called social media celebrity needs to be ended as well. They have embraced Islam. Fawning over new converts is something I’ve never understood, especially when the reason for conversion is other than, let’s say, purely intellectual. I hope all converts get the help they need. But they ultimately need to prove themselves if they want to assume the limelight for Islam, or want to continue to assume the limelight for the causes they righteous causes they claim to champion. It is never a good idea to associate the superiority of Islam to the number of converts it wins to its side, let alone any particular convert. They are not the vanguard of Islam.
