are you okay?
they ask
i respond
as quickly
as i can
so they will not notice
the earthquakes
in my voice
or the tsunamis
in my eyes
or the drought
in my heart
From i saw you as a flower

Human beings are, by nature, fearful—have you ever wondered why we cannot sit still without a phone, a television, or any other distraction? It is because sitting in silence, doing nothing, forces us to confront our lives more deeply. It makes us realize how much our lives depend on us, how responsible we truly are.
Yet we remain trapped in this way of thinking, in these habits, in this comfort zone that keeps us from facing our harsh reality. And that reality is bitter—filled with pain, disappointment, and tragedy. Our subconscious mind despises pain, so it desperately seeks any distraction to avoid feeling it.
But we must accept this painful reality. This is our imperfect, difficult life. Instead of running from it, we must think about how to change it. We must train our minds to endure pain, to recognize it as a natural and necessary emotion.
A person who never feels pain will never evolve. Pain, more often than not, is a hidden mercy.
