🏳️❌🇲🇱 — JNIM claimed to have ambushed a convoy of the Malian army close to the capital Bamako on the evening of September 2.
Urgent | Mali A Malian army convoy was ambushed near the Malian capital (Bamako) this evening; Allah is great and glory belongs to Allah. 20 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH | 2 September 2026 CEAround 5:50 p.m. a convoy of the Malian army tasked with escorting fuel tanker trucks between Ségou and Fana. Several tankers were set ablaze, and others were damaged at the site. The army fled the scene showing little to no resistance. As a reminder, in a statement on September 7, 2025, JNIM had announced a blockade of fuel destined for Bamako and several regional capitals in southern and western Mali. This campaign had led to the burning of hundreds of fuel tankers and the deaths of dozens of drivers, plunging Bamako into an unprecedented fuel crisis, with lines stretching several kilometers in front of gas stations. As a result, the junta had to reach out a deal with JNIM, releasing fighters/commanders and a ransom was paid, but the deal was temporary. @Conflict_Monitor
