Recycling of iron and heme, the major complex containing iron, occurs most actively in which lymphoid organ(s)/tissue(s)?
Which cell type gives rise to both memory and effector cells and is primarily associated with humoral immunity?
Which structure is partly encapsulated and covered by nonkeratinized stratified squamous epithelium?
Which function is carried out by all lymphoid tissues and organs?
اللهم بلّغنا العشر الأوائل من ذي الحجة وبارك لنا فيها، وأعنّا على الذكر والطاعة وصالح الأعمال.

✨ Lymphoid Organs
🔹 Primary lymphoid organs:
Thymus & Bone marrow → maturation of lymphocytes.
🔹 Secondary lymphoid organs:
Lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils → immune response against antigens.
🌟 Thymus
• Located in superior mediastinum.
• Has dark cortex & pale medulla.
• Cortex contains developing T cells.
• Medulla contains Hassall’s corpuscles.
• Blood-thymus barrier protects immature T cells.
🌟 Lymph Node
• Filters lymph.
• Outer cortex → B lymphocytes & lymphoid nodules.
• Inner cortex (paracortex) → T lymphocytes.
• Medulla contains medullary cords & sinuses.
🔸 Important points:
✔️ Thymus has NO lymphoid nodules.
✔️ Secondary nodules contain germinal centers.
✔️ Paracortex is rich in T lymphocytes. 🩺✨✨Spleen & Palatine Tonsils✨
❈Spleen:
🔸 Largest lymphoid organ.
🔸Function: blood filtration.
🔸White pulp → immune response (B & T lymphocytes).
🔸Red pulp → destroys old RBCs بواسطة macrophages.
🔸Marginal zone → entry of lymphocytes & antigens.
❈Palatine Tonsils:
🔸Located in the lateral wall of oropharynx.
🔸Covered by non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium with crypts.
🔸Contain lymphoid nodules for protection against infection.
🔸 No afferent lymph vessels or blood sinuses.Lymphocytes & Immune System
✮ Lymphocytes are the main cells of lymphoid organs and form 20–30% of WBCs.
✮ Types:
T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, and Natural Killer (NK) cells.
✮ T cells → cellular immunity, while B cells → humoral immunity by producing antibodies.
✮ Memory cells can survive for several years.
✮ Lymphopoiesis starts from PHSCs → MHSCs → CFU-Ly, then differentiates into T or B lymphocytes.
✮ Innate immunity includes complement system, phagocytic cells, and NK cells.
✮ Surface protective mechanisms:
skin, mucus, lysozyme, acidic environment, and cilia.
✮ Antigen presenting cells include macrophages, Langerhans cells, B lymphocytes, and epithelial reticular cells.
