Empirical antibiotics in Acute gastroenteritis are only indicated if patients are systemically unwell, immunosuppressed or if elderly, or if the patient has bloody diarrhoea. 🍓CIprofloxacin is used to treat Salmonella, Shigella and Campylobacter, 🍓Tetra cyclines(Doxycycline)can be used for cholera, 🍓Metronidazole in parasitic infections or other bowel problems. 🍓Co-amoxiclav is seldom used in enteric infections.

📚 Some clinical studies have reported that montelukast may reduce menstrual pain in women with dysmenorrhea, suggesting a possible role beyond its respiratory indications. ⚠️ BUT HERE IS THE IMPORTANT CLINICAL PEARL: Montelukast is NOT a standard first-line treatment for dysmenorrhea. The usual first-line options remain: ✅ NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen or mefenamic acid ✅ Hormonal contraception when appropriate Montelukast for dysmenorrhea remains an off-label / investigational approach, and evidence is much less established than for NSAIDs. Clinical pearl: 💡 *Montelukast ≠ only an asthma drug — but also ≠ routine treatment for menstrual cramps.*
