The Afghan Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on May 11, 2026. A strong demarche was delivered regarding the May 9 vehicle-borne IED attack on the Fateh Khel police post in Bannu district, which killed 15 police constables and injured four others. The Ministry stated that evidence and technical intelligence indicate the attack was masterminded by terrorists based in Afghanistan. Pakistan expressed grave concern over the continued use of Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan and reserved the right to respond decisively. Pakistan reiterated that the Afghan Taliban must take concrete and verifiable action against Fitna-al-Khawarij, Fitna-al-Hindustan, and ISKP elements operating from Afghan territory, noting that previous diplomatic engagements have failed to yield meaningful results.
