#UPDATE Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) has released figures for June 2026 that seriously undercount pro-government fatalities, creating a misleading picture of the security situation. According to PICSS, only 26 security forces personnel were killed in June. Their comparative bar chart shows a dramatic decline in SF deaths compared to previous months, with the bulk of fatalities attributed to militants (184). While militant deaths appear broadly consistent with other tallies, the numbers on the pro-government side are starkly different from independently verified data. A detailed tally of incidents in June records 151 total pro-government fatalities. This breaks down to: 111 official security forces 26 pro-state militias / irregulars 14 spies / informants Even if we isolate high-profile incidents like the deadly helicopter crash in Muzaffarabad on June 10 that killed 22 personnel, the gap between PICSS’s reported 26 and the confirmed 151 remains enormous. This is not a minor discrepancy but rather a massive undercount that distorts the true cost being borne by Pakistan’s security forces We believe this lowballing is an attempt by the state to justify cross border strikes on Afghanistan. By minimizing security forces deaths, government-aligned voices can more easily portray cross-border strikes into Afghanistan as highly effective operations that are “breaking the back” of militant groups. In reality, the persistent heavy toll on Pak forces suggests these strikes are not delivering the decisive results being claimed. It is also important to note that the figure of 151 is a bare minimum. Many units, particularly elite formations like the SSG, have significantly tightened internal protocols regarding the sharing of casualty information by family members. Public announcements of deaths are increasingly restricted, meaning a substantial number of fatalities likely go unreported in open sources. When you factor in this opacity, the real count for June is almost certainly higher than 151. Until trackers like PICSS align their numbers with ground realities or at least transparently explain their methodology, their reports should be treated with considerable skepticism. Blood isn't cheap and sacrifices shouldn't be so easily overlooked. @Insurgent_Zone
