A year after ‘Obsession’ blew up TIFF’s Midnight Madness, writer-director Curry Barker and star Inde Navarrette returned for a packed fan screening of the horror phenomenon. The crowd was split between repeat viewers and newcomers, a remarkable victory lap for a $750,000 film that Focus Features bought for $15 million before it grossed $512 million worldwide. The success has transformed both careers. Barker is headed to A24’s ‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ remake, while Navarrette, who has also joined the MCU as Rogue, is making a full-court press for her first Oscar nomination.
