🔥 THE UAT EXAM TRAP
That basic rule is easy. BUT HERE IS WHERE AAU TRAPS 90% OF STUDENTS:❓What happens when the test hits you with a Multi-Conditional Chain?
"If it rains, the game is delayed. If the game is delayed, the team rests. The team did not rest."🔹Standard test-takers try to read this backward in their heads, get confused, and waste 3 minutes picking a trap answer. There is a 10-second visual mapping shortcut that lets you instantly draw out these logic chains so you never have to hold them in your head. 📢In this fast-track sprint, we only have time to master the core logic rules so you avoid basic errors. But mastering that visual mapping system is what guarantees a top-tier Verbal score when you are under extreme time pressure. 🎯 YOUR TURN (CAN YOU SOLVE THIS?):
If only blue birds sing, and the bird in the cage is singing, what must logically be true? A) The bird is definitely blue. B) All blue birds are in cages. C) The bird might not be blue.☑️Drop your answer (A, B, or C) and your reasoning in the comments below! Most people fall for the reversed-logic trap here. Let's see who gets it right. 💡Stay sharp, stay locked in. Lesson 3 is dropping soon! Share: @UATbootcamp

The Addis Ababa University (AAU) UAT Verbal Reasoning section contains 55 questions to be answered in 60 minutes and focuses heavily on logic and language mechanics. UAT VERBAL SPRINT: LOGICAL REASONING TRAPS Future AAU scholars! The UAT Verbal section hits you with 55questions in just 60 minutes. That is roughly 65 seconds per question.
Today we are attacking the biggest time-killer on the exam: Logical Deductions & Arguments. The Core Rule: Never Use Outside Knowledge When the exam gives you a logic statement, you must rely only on the text provided. Quick Exam Scenario:
Statement 1: All doctors study biology. Statement 2: Sara studies biology. Conclusion: Sara is a doctor. The Fast-Track Solution: Is the conclusion true? FALSE. Just because all doctors study biology does not mean everyone who studies biology is a doctor. Recognizing this one-way logic rule will get you the correct answer on 80% of standard UAT deduction problems. Share: @UATbootcamp

When it comes to Probability, not every question deserves the same amount of attention.
There are a few high yield patterns that repeatedly appear on real UAT exams of AAU.
✔️ Tossing coins
✔️ Rolling dice
✔️Card problems
✔️Selection problems
✔️ Color ball problems
The interesting part is that once you understand the Combination Principle, 90% of selection and probability questions that initially look complicated become much more manageable.
We introduced the foundation during the bootcamp, but we won’t try to squeeze every exam-level variation into a short session.
In the full tutorial program, we’ll take these high-yield areas much further working through different question patterns, common traps, previous year questions, and increasingly challenging problems so you can build the confidence to face unfamiliar questions.

There are still several important Quantitative topics that every serious UAT candidate needs to master.
What we have covered in this bootcamp so far is only part of the bigger picture. The remaining Quantitative topics are especially important because they can account for more than 25–30 questions in the real UAT exam.
over the next 3 days, we will continue building your Quantitative foundation and show you the concepts, question patterns, and approaches you actually need for the exam.
And after this bootcamp, these topics will be covered more deeply in our actual tutorial program with more practice, real UAT questions, detailed explanations, and exam-focused preparation.
So if you are wondering, “What about the rest of Quantitative?” we haven’t forgotten them.
The bootcamp gives you the direction and foundation.
The tutorial gives you the depth, practice, and exam readiness.

THE UAT EXAM TRAP
That basic formula works great for simple questions. BUT HERE IS WHERE AAU TRAPS 90% OF STUDENTS:What happens when the UAT gives you a Conditional Selection Problem like this? Example:
"A pool has 5 Engineering students and 4 Medical students. You must pick a 4-person committee, but it MUST contain AT LEAST 2 Engineering students. What is the probability of selecting this exact group?"If you try to solve "at least" problems using standard combinations, you will run out of time or count duplicate groups—costing you easy points on test day! There is a 15-second "Complementary Probability" shortcut that completely bypasses the long calculations for "at least" and "at most" conditions.
We only have time in this fast-track sprint to master the core foundation so you hit your target baseline. But mastering these advanced high-speed shortcuts is what separates standard scores from top-tier AAU placements.🎯 YOUR TURN (CAN YOU SOLVE THIS?):
A pool has 5 Engineering students and 4 Medical students. A 4-person committee is selected at random. What is the exact probability that the committee contains AT LEAST 2 Engineering students?Drop your steps and answers in the comments below! Most students get stuck or take over 3 minutes on this exact problem. Let's see who can handle it. Stay sharp, stay locked in, and get ready for the next lesson dropping shortly! share: @UATbootcamp

UAT QUANTITATIVE REASONING :
COMBINATIONS & PROBABILITY
Future AAU students,
listen up! The Addis Ababa University Undergraduate Admission Test (UAT) is around the corner, and the Quantitative Reasoning section will make or break your admission.
Today we are tackling one of the most tested areas: Combinations & Selection Probability (Committees, Cards, Balls, and Team Selections)
.
The Core Rule: Order Does NOT Matter
When you are selecting a group, committee, or team, the order of selection doesn't change the outcome.
To choose r items from n total options:
{n}/{r} = {n!}/{r!(n - r)!}
Quick Exam Scenario:
Question: AAU needs to select a committee of 3 students from a group of 8 applicants. How many different committees can be formed?
The Fast-Track Solution:
{8}/{3} = {8 × 7 × 6} ÷{3 × 2 × 1} = 56 ways
Boom. That basic formula gets you the correct answer on 80% of standard UAT combination problems

🎯 READY TO PRACTICE?
This question set covers the core AAU UAT Quantitative Reasoning statistics curriculum:❓Questions 1–5 (Multiple Choice): Question 1: The mean score of 8 students on a UAT practice exam is 75. When two additional students join the group, the overall mean score of all 10 students becomes 78. What is the average score of the two new students? A.90 B.87 C.84 D.92 💡 Hint : Find the total score sum before and after the two new students were added. Question 2: A set consists of 7 distinct positive integers arranged in ascending order: x1<x2<x3<x4<x5<x6<x7. The mean of the set is 15, the median is 12, and the range is 22. What is the absolute maximum possible value that x7 can take? A.33 B.29 C.35 D.31 💡 Hint : Set up equations using Total Sum = 105, Median = 12, and Range = 22, then minimize all other distinct numbers. Question 3: A sample set of 5 data points has a mean of 20 and a variance of 16. If every number in the dataset is multiplied by 3 and then increased by 4, what are the new mean and new standard deviation of the modified dataset? A.New Mean = 60, New Standard Deviation = 48 B.New Mean = 64, New Standard Deviation = 52 C.New Mean = 64, New Standard Deviation = 12 D.New Mean = 64, New Standard Deviation = 16 💡Hint : Multiplying by k scales both mean and standard deviation by k. Adding a constant c only changes the mean, not standard deviation. Question 4: Class A has 30 students with a mean score of 80%. Class B has 20 students with a mean score of 90%. What is the combined weighted mean score for all 50 students? A.86% B.84% C.82% D.85% 💡Hint :Multiply each class mean by its number of students, add those totals together, and divide by total students. Question 5: In a department of 40 employees, the median annual salary is $35,000, and the mean annual salary is $42,000. If the top 2 highest-paid executives each receive a $50,000 raise, how will the median and mean of the department's salaries change? A.The median increases, and the mean increases to $44,500. B.The median remains $35,000, and the mean increases to $47,000. C.The median remains $35,000, and the mean increases to $44,500. D.Both the median and the mean remain unchanged. 💡Hint : Check if altering extreme upper values changes the middle position (median) and calculate the overall sum change for the mean. 👇

5 BREAKDOWN PROBLEMS FOR INTERPRETATIONAL STRUGGLES
(For "TRAD" Comments)Problem 1: Missing Data Trap Question = "The average of 5 numbers is 20. If one number is removed, the average becomes 18. What was the removed number?" Translation: Total 5 × 20 = 100. New total 4 × 18 = 72. Removed number = 100 - 72 = 28. Problem 2: The Range Optimization Rule Question=> "In a set of 5 positive integers with a range of 10, what is the maximum value the largest number can take if the smallest is 3?" Translation: Range = Max- Min = > 10 = Max - 3 => Max = 13. (Other numbers in between don't restrict this). Problem 3: Weighted Mean Word Problem Question => "Class A has 20 students with a mean score of 80. Class B has 30 students with a mean score of 90. What is the combined mean?" Translation: Do not average 80 and 90 to get 85! Combined Mean = (20 × 80) + (30 × 90) ÷{20 + 30} = \{1600 + 2700}÷ {50} = 86. Problem 4: Median Position in Frequency Tables question=> "20 students scored 1, 15 scored 2, and 10 scored 3. What is the median score?" Translation: Total students = 45. Median is the {45+1}÷{2} = 23rd student position. Counting positions: 1 to 20 scored 1; positions 21 to 35 scored 2. The 23rd student falls in the "2" category. Median = 2. Problem 5: Consecutive Set Shifts question=> "The mean of 7 consecutive integers is M. If the next 2 consecutive integers are included, how does the mean change?" Translation: For consecutive integers, the mean is the exact center. Adding 2 larger consecutive terms shifts the middle point right by +1. New mean = M + 1. Share: @UATbootcamp

"Hey UAT students, Due to an administrative oversight during our question review process, the multiple-choice options provided for Question #3 were incorrect, and the answer key contained a flaw regarding structural Constraints. We want to address an error on our recent question 3 quantitative challenge post.
Here’s why: the problem states we have 7 distinct positive integers. If M were 32, the smallest number would be 32 - 20 = 12. But since our median is ALSO 12, having a smallest number of 12 makes it impossible for all 7 numbers to be distinct. When you properly set up the smallest distinct integers—M-20, M-19, M-18, 12, 13, 14, and M—and set their sum to 98, you get 4M - 18 = 98, which gives M = 29 Catching details like the word 'distinct' is exactly what sets top UAT scorers apart. Amazing job to everyone who noticed!"We sincerely apologize for any confusion or frustration this caused in your test preparation. We hold our platform to the highest academic standards, and we are deeply grateful to our alert, analytical students who caught this constraint conflict. Your attention to detail proves you are reading UAT conditions with exact precision! Thank you for your understanding, patience, and commitment to excellence. STATISTICS In the UAT isn't just formulas—it's hidden inside real-world word problems! Here is where you'll see it:• Sports Averages: Score needed in the next game to hit a target mean. • Class Score Shifts: How dropping or correcting a test mark alters the mean or median. • Salary Skew: Why high executive pay distorts the mean, making median the better metric. • Factory Defect Rates: Standard deviation and range used for quality control. • Combined Groups: Merging averages of two different-sized classes using weighted means. • Retail Inventory: Using mode to stock the most frequently bought product sizes. • Wait Times & Polling: Analyzing customer service queues or survey sample data. 💡 Key Tip: Always check if a problem requires a simple average or a weighted average when groups are different sizes! @UATbootcamp

IF YOU VOTED: INTERPRETATIONAL / TRANSLATION STRUGGLES
This is the most common UAT bottleneck! You know how mean and median work, but the question reads like a riddle.
The UAT uses specific key phrases that map directly to mathematical equations.
💡 THE UAT TRANSLATION CHEAT SHEET:
"Distinct integers" => No numbers can repeat! (x_1 < x_2 < x_3)
"Positive integers" => Numbers must be whole and \ge 1 (zero is not positive!).
"Maximize the largest number" \rightarrow You MUST minimize every other number to its absolute lowest limit.
"Consecutive integers" => The numbers increase by +1 (x, x+1, x+2). The Mean and Median are ALWAYS identical!
Next time you see a long word problem, don't read the whole paragraph at once. Translate it word-by-word into algebra before solving.
📌 Preparation Direction:
Translating complex word problems under tight time limits takes targeted practice across multiple question variations.
👇 Drop a "TRAD" in the comments if you want us to breakdown 5 complex UAT word problems .
