Regrettably, it appears that Fr. Jenkins has not read nor considered the Unam Sanctam project or arguments.
Firstly, we have no intention of "taking the law into our own hands". We are trying to prudently follow the law for the good of the Church. Our challenge is to navigate this in a time when the letter of the law gives no explicit prescriptions for what to do. However, we think it clear that the spirit of the law provides a light forward. If anyone can argue against our arguments for this, we welcome objections.
Secondly, we see a common false dichotomy: are men going to solve this crisis or God? We believe the answer is clearly "both", as it has always been in the Church. The members of the Church are the members of Christ's body; the Faithful to whom God may bestow His Grace are the instruments God uses to do His will. If our moral lessons teach us that each one of us must cooperate willingly and actively with God's grace unto salvation, it is clear that willful action must likewise be taken, collectively, for the good of the Church.
God must indeed be the one to solve this crisis. But an Imperfect Council may be the very means He chooses to do so. | 1 196 |

"Speaking of an Imperfect General Council, His Excellency Bishop Sanborn states that none of his clergy have signed the open letter and if any chose to do so he would "fire" them.
We understand the RCI's position and why its members would not assent to an IGC. This is partly why we have been recently trying to emphasise that, at this stage, Unam Sanctam is calling for pre-meetings to discuss the potential efficacy of an Imperfect Council or to compare competing ideas. Unam Sanctam would not proceed with a council without sufficient assent from traditional Bishops.
However, what we find troubling is His Excellency's insistence that he would fire his clergy even if they "showed in person to object". We wonder if this would also apply to the pre-meetings. The question is: even if a council were not yet to be called, and there were simply a gathering of Bishops to discuss the current crisis and possible solutions, would His Excellency or any other Bishop of the RCI be willing to attend?
If the answer would be "no" we would like to understand why. After all, if his fellow Bishops are being gathered together to discuss such a grave matter, what reason would any Bishop have for dismissing an invitation?
