“It tastes like The Death of Ivan Ilyich,” he said after drinking the first sip of his coffee.
She let out a short laugh.
“Why? It isn’t that bad after all.”
“No, but I was drinking this coffee around the same time last year reading that book and suffering.”

The seed needs the water for it grow out of the ground
It just keeps getting harder, the hunger more profound
Let the clouds fill with thunderous applause
The lightning be the veins
Fill the sky with all that they can draw
And when it's time to make a change
Make it rain, make it rain

Spotify was on random play and I was busy with my schedule when this song was played. I was quite enjoying it without noticing the lyrics and the name till it ended. It was only when I decided to add it to my playlist because it matched my taste in music, that I suddenly noticed the name.
And there was a long silence.
A while ago, my father gave me a list of song titles to listen to, and one of them was "Soldier of Fortune" by Deep Purple.
It was quite a strange feeling, almost as if I were experiencing what my father did at his young age when he first heard that song, perhaps enjoying it thinking it suited his music taste just as it did with me. It felt like history was repeating itself as I listened to a new version of the song and added it to my playlist for the first time.
I will always be your son. Even though you will never accept me as who I really am. Even though you know, as I do and as everyone around us sees, that no one in your life is more similar to you than I am. Our souls are made of the same essence.
Yes, father, I guess I’ll always be your son.

Waiting for the day
When I'd take your hand and sing you songs
And maybe you would say
"Come lay with me and love me"
I would surely stay
Now I feel I'm growing older
And all the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill going round
I guess I'll always be
A soldier of fortune

Persephone has returned to The Underworld to Hades today. That is the beginning of “fall”.

‘I am eternally, devastatingly romantic, and I thought people would see it because 'romantic" doesn't mean 'sugary.' It's dark and tormented – the furor of passion, the despair of an idealism that you can't attain.’
