The United States is considering something it rarely does: Stop its own fuel from leaving the country. The Trump administration is reportedly preparing a plan that could ban U.S. diesel exports for 90 days as record fuel costs put growing pressure on American consumers ahead of the midterm elections. The logic sounds simple — keep more American diesel inside America and push domestic prices down. But there’s a much bigger problem. The United States is one of the world's major fuel exporters, meaning countries elsewhere depend on those shipments. Restricting them could lower supply abroad and push international prices even higher. A policy designed to protect American drivers could therefore send another shock through the global energy market. Keep an eye on this one.
