The moment of change 20 – 11 – 2016 is an unforgettable date. On a cold Saturday morning, while I am sitting in my tent that does not protect from the cold of winter, someone called for me and told me that there is a foreign person outside asking me to translate something. I went out and sat with the immigrant man speaking to me in English while I was trying to answer him in Arabic and English. At the end of the conversation, he asked me about my studies and my experience, and I answered him that I study English literature and I am good at working on computer programs and media. All of this dialogue took place without knowing who this person was, and when I asked him he told me that he was Abu Hussam Al Baritani. He asked me to visit him in his office, so after a while I checked him back to give me a computer test and I passed it. He told me to start working with him in an administrative position in the Relief Department. I agreed and started working on January 16, 2017. Day after day he used to encourage me and always reminded me that we are here to serve the ummah and that we are all from dust we will return one day to it. At first I told myself that it was just words to make me stay in his foundation work, but I did not lose sight when I was late for work and he came and asked me why I was late. I told him that the heater in my tent broke down and I was trying to fix it before it gets dark. He told me to go and take a new heater funded by him. In the same context I remember when the sectarian regime of Asad bombed Khan Sheikhoun with chemical weapons. He gave me an amount of money and asked me to buy oxygen and breath equipment and get a car. It took three hours to complete the needs of hospitals and food and to prepare the kit thinking that he would send it with someone. When I finished, I saw him say goodbye to his family and friends and came to the car to drive by himself. What surprised me is that he was a man who left everything and went to Syria to risk his life in order to help the injured. I still do not lose sight of those terrifying moments that we spent in a hospital, which is located in a cave on the outskirts of Khan Sheikhoun, where planes began bombing while we were within the area. When I came up with an idea to help civilians, he was always fair to me. In Atma camps in the depression of mud and cold, in the heat and torment, in all these times, we were side by side. I never felt that he was arrogant nor felt him treating us as a manager treats his employees. The words that I heard from him were making me stronger and ready to stay at work for the next day. I spent most of the time on the roads, delivering his support to hospitals and the needy from Khirbat al-Jawz and Jisr al-Shughur to Jabal al-Zawiya, Khan Sheikhoun and Qalaat al-Madiq. I will never forget the moments when he told me to prepare cars loaded with emergency baskets in order to receive the displaced from Ghouta in Qalaat al-Madiq and that we will sleep there waiting for them. Within three days, he had prepared two reception centers in Atma and Qah that could accommodate nearly 60 families, and provided all the necessities of life such as water, food and hygiene. This man whom I have always known is fair to the Syrians and loves to help them and has a kind heart. I saw him day and night wandering around the camps and the needy. I am astonished by his personality, I asked him: man when do you sleep? He told me that he is here to help and not to rest. To be hand in hand for the sake of serving the ummah and to achieve our goals of empowering the generation on the right path through education. - في صباح يوم السبت البارد وبينما أنا جالس في خيمتي التي لا تقي برد الشتاء فإذا بمنادي يناديني ليقول لي أنه يوجد شخص أجنبي في الخارج يطلب مني أن أقوم بالترجمة. - لبيت النداء وجلست مع الرجل المهاجر يكلمني بالإنكليزي وأنا أحاول أن أجيبه بالعربي والإنكليزي. وفي نهاية الحديث سألني عن دراستي وخبرتي فأجبته أنني أدرس الأدب الإنكليزي وأجيد العمل على برامج الحاسوب والإعلام، وكل هذا الحوار جرى بدون أن أعرف من هذا الشخص وعندما سألته قال لي أنه أبو حسام البريطاني. طلب مني أن أراجعه في مكتبه فبعد مدة راجعته ليقدم لي اختبار على الحاسوب ونجحت به فقال لي أن ابدأ العمل معه بمنصب إداري في قسم الإغاثة فوافقت وبدأت العمل في 16/1/2017. يوم بعد يوم كان يشجعني و يذكرني دائماً بأننا هنا لخدمة الأمة و أننا كلنا من تراب سنعود يوماً ما إليه، في البداية قلت لنفسي أنه مجرد كلام فقط لأبقى في العمل الطويل ولكن لا يغيب عن بالي عندما تأخرت عن الدوام وجاء وسألني لماذا تأخرت فقلت له أن المدفأة في الخيمة كسرت وكنت أحاول أن أصلحها قبل المساء فقال لي اذهب و خذ واحدة جديدة مني، في نفس السياق أتذكر عندما قصف نظام أسد الطائفي خان شيخون بالكيماوي فقلت له ماذا حصل أعطاني مبلغ من المال و طلب مني أن اشتري أجهزة اوكسجين وارزاز وأن اجهز سيارة كاملة من احتياجات المشافي و الطعام استغرقت ثلاث ساعات و أن أعد العدة ظناً أنه سيرسلها مع أي شخص فلما انتهيت رأيته يودع عائلته و أصحابه و جاء إلى السيارة ليقودها بنفسه مما أثار الدهشة في نفسي أنه رجل ترك كل شيء و ذهب ليخاطر بحياته من أجل مساعدة المصابين، لا تزال لا تغيب عن بالي تلك اللحظات المرعبة التي أمضيناها في المشفى المتواجد في مغارة على اطراف خان شيخون حيث بدأت الطائرات تقصف ونحن ضمن المنطقة، الذي أثار دهشتي أكثر كلما جئته بفكرة لمساعدة المدنيين كان دائماً منصفاً لي، في مخيمات أطمة في المنخفضات في الوحل والطين والبرد في الحر و العذاب كل هذه الأوقات كنا جنباً إلى جنب لم أشعر يوماً بأنه متكبر أو هو المدير ونحن الموظفون، الكلام الذي كنت أسمعه منه كان يزيدني قوة و استعداد للبقاء بالعمل لليوم التالي، دائماً لديه المفاجآت و الأعمال التي نقول عنها مستحيلة، مضيت معظم الأوقات في الطرقات أوصل دعمه للمشافي والمحتاجين من خربة الجوز وجسر الشغور الى جبل الزاوية و خان شيخون وقلعة المضيق لا يغيب عن بالي تلك اللحظات التي اخبرني أن أجهز سيارات محملة بسلل للطوارئ من أجل استقبال مهجري الغوطة في قلعة المضيق و أننا سننام هناك ننتظرهم، وخلال ثلاثة أيام كان قد جهز مركزين للاستقبال في اطمة وقاح يتسعان لقرابة 60 عائلة ، وقدم كل مستلزمات الحياة من ماء وطعام ونظافة، هذا الرجل الذي لطالما عرفته منصفاً للسوريين محباً لمساعدتهم و صاحب القلب الطيب الذي أراه ليلاً نهاراً في التجوال على المخيمات و المحتاجين الذي سبب لي الدهشة من شخصيته، رجل متى تنام فقال لي أن هنا للمساعدة وليس للراحة أنا خادم للأمة، رجل بصفاته و همته و كرمه و شعبيته التي غطت معظم المحرر من النادر أن نجد مثله، لطالما تمنيت أن يبقى معنا و أن نكون يداً بيد في سبيل خدمة الأمة و أن نحقق أهدافنا بتمكين الجيل على الطريق السليم من خلال التعليم و أن نفعل الناس لخدمة الأمة. أبو حسام البريطاني ( توقير توكس شريف) ننتظرك لنكمل مشوارنا، نأمل أن لا تطيل الغياب. أخوك إبراهيم النهار

His family and wives have not been granted any visits or communication with him. We request from HTS to release Abu Hussam Al-Britani, Bilal Abdul Kareem and anyone wrongfully imprisioned and oppressed. O HTS, be like those whom Allah said regarding them: "The people have gathered against you, so He increased them in faith, and they said: Allah is sufficient for us, and is the best disposer of affairs." Allah SWT also said: "O My servants, I forbade injustice to myself and I have made it forbidden among you, so do not oppress because injustice is a darkness on the Day of Judgement". And the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him also said: "Protect your selves from the Hell-fire even if with half a date". #Day30 A whole month has now passed and information on Tauqir still stays with the security forces of Idlib. The security forces of HTS have given us countless messages of false hope. It's been impossible to reach them and get details on what is happening to him. They have left us completely in the dark and have become impossible to reach. The people who follow the orders and carry out arrests with such force. Like what happend to Tauqir, 3 hits to the head when we know in Islam this is not allowed. Torture, again something forbidden in Islam. Keeping him in impure clothes stained with his own blood to pray in...and the list goes on. 4 weeks now since British aid worker Tauqir Sharif was re-arrested by the group HTS. He hasnt been given the right to contact, a visit, no evidence has been brought forth on the alleged accusations, has not sat infront of a judge. 4 weeks and they continue to keep him with no charges, no trial and no justice! At this point I was flipped over so my head was bent to the side and touching the floor, and my feet were in the air.” Tox, who was also blindfolded, said his interrogator then started to whip his feet and legs with a thick belt or wire. The beating had gone on for up to 10 minutes, he estimated. “I zoned out. I just tried to focus on my reciting [of a verse from the Quran]. BREAKING: After much speculation, OGN has been able to reveal Tauqir 'Tox' Sharif's testimony that he was tortured at the hands of HTS whilst incarcerated in their prison during his initial arrest. (This was recorded after he was initially released, he still remains in prison) Tox describes the torture methods that were used during his interrogation and the impact it had on him. He was re-arrested on the 11th of August 2020 by HTS. Two days later, on the 13th of August 2020, Bilal Abdul Kareem from On The Ground News was also arrested, for reasons unknown. They are both currently detained by HTS. "This has all happened again too soon. Not even a month & we are going through this nightmare all over again. Now for us we have a bigger worry on our minds. For my children they've had their Baba taken away from them TWICE now in the space of 2 months. My 2 year old tells me over & over again that "Baba is in his office, hes not in sijin (prison)". What worries me more is when in their life they find out how their Baba was treated at the hands of his own Muslim brothers. In recent weeks, Bilal had been highlighting the case of Tox who was taken into custody & held for several weeks. Tox accused HTS of torturing him whilst he was in their custody. Tomorrow is the day of Tauqirs court hearing. We ask you all to pray that the outcome is best for us all and best for the ummah! It's been delayed by 10 days and taken longer than expected. Tauqir still hasnt received his allegations in writing so tomorrow we all really don't know what to expect and how their processessing of the case will work. He is still restricted to do any aid work and post it on social media but we are praying after tomorrow those conditions will be removed from him and he can carry on the work Allah has allowed him do. Below is a message from Tox's wife Racquell to those who have been holding Tox captive for almost 2 weeks now: To the people responsible....the longer you hold Tauqir the more damage you are doing to the Islamic projects he has invested everything into. He has given everything to rebuild lives, homes and hearts and nearly 2 weeks all of that has been put on hold. Yes the projects are open, but they cannot run the same without Him. Do you realise what 2 weeks work of an aid worker is like? The more the days go by, the more harm is being done. The more children have to suffer, and the more mouths that will go hungry... when Haleb was falling he was one of the first to respond to look after the displaced. He even brought a number of families to our home to look after. When the bombing intensified on Idlib and areas where lost, there was no sign of any major aid organisations coming to help the people. I saw him tirelessly working day and night to help as many people as he could. He opened up the masjids, put up tents, built homes, provided hundreds with warm food and a place to sleep. Where are your facilites yourself to provide such a service to the Syrian people? Are your actions creating a greater harm than good whilst keeping him behind your bars. He put his own life in danger many many times to save the life of others. I know when he sees the suffering child he sees that child as his own child, the suffering old lady he sees her as his mother...and in the land he came to give everything he had, hes being held back and kept from fulfilling his duty as a Muslim. Oh Allah keep us sincere on this path and ease the tests and trials that come along the way ameen #FreeTox --- إلى المسؤولين عن الأمر، كلما طال احتجازكم لتوقير زاد الضرر للمشاريع الإسلامية التي يتبناها. لقد قدم كل شيء لإعادة بناة حياة أشخاص، منازل وقلوب. وخلال أسبوعين تقريبا توقف كل ذلك. لازالت المشاريع جارية لكن ليس بنفس الوتيرة التي كانت عليها خلال إشراف توقير. هل تدركون ماذا تعني فترة أسبوعين من عمل عامل إغاثي؟ كلما مرت أيام اعتقاله، زاد الضرر على المستفيدين وسيعاني المزيد من الأطفال وستتضرع مزيد من الأفواه جوعاً. عندما كانت حلب تسقط كان توقير من الأوائل الذين استجابوا لإيواء العوائل النازحة. بل أنه أيضا أحضر عدد من العائلات إلى بيتنا ليقيموا فيه. عندما اشتد القصف على إدلب والمناطق التي سقطت لم يكن هناك اي منظمات تذهب لمساعدة الناس. لقد رايته يعمل ليلا نهارا بلا كلل اأو ملل ليساعد أكبر قدر ممكن من الناس. لقد فتح المساجد ونصب الخيم، بنى المنازل وقدم الوجبات الساخنة ومكان للمبيت لمئات من الأشخاص. أين الجهود التي بذلتموها لخدمة الشعب السوري؟ تصرفاتكم تترك أثرا سلبيا حينما تتركونه خلف القضبان. لقد خاطر بروحه عدة مرات لإنقاذ حياة الآخرين. أنا اجزم أنه عندما يرى طفلا يعاني فإنه يعتبر أن هذا الطفل هو احد أولاده، ويعتبر العجوز التي تعاني أنها بمثابة والدته. وفي نفس الأرض التي جاء ليقدم كل ما لديه فيها، تم اعتقاله وإبعاده عن أداء واجبه كمسلم. اللهم ارزقنا الإخلاص في دنيانا ونجّنا من الفتن والابتلاءات التي نمر بها. آمين #الحرية_لأبو_حسام

A heartfelt message from sister Racquell’s (wife of Tox) family in the UK to those who are holding Tox: "Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem Asalaam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuhu. I pray that these few lines reach you in the best of Emaan and health. Ameen. SubahanAllah! Only Allah SWT knows the pain and distress inside a person’s heart and mind. These past few days have been very stressful. The distance between myself and my daughter and grandchildren makes this situation harder to bear. I cannot hold her tight and reassure with words of comfort. Racquells father, brothers and sisters, aunts and other family members are all very distraught. Allah SWT knows all we can do is constantly ask Him for an end to this situation. Tauqir has always been a ray of positive light. He has brought so much to so many lives. Even before venturing off to Syria he was a person who had plans to help the youth and others wherever they may be. My daughter Racquell was always the same. Always had the desire to help wherever and whenever she could. The bigger the project and/or challenge the more eager they were. I knew from very early on that they would be a serious and strong team together. Alhamdulillah. All they have strived for and completed has only been for the sake of Allah SWT. They saw the need there and didn’t hesitate to give up so much to aid the people of Syria. To know Racquell and my beautiful grandchildren are now without their strength and support (Tox) is very hard. As a mother and grandmother to see the distress, difficulty, worry and concern she is having to bear – my heart feels as if it is tied in knots. I sincerely ask that the brothers who are holding Tauqir, release him. Look at all of the previous achievements he has been able to complete since he has settled in Syria. He loves Syria and the Syrian people. Alhamdulillah he has enabled families to feel stable again, he has made it possible for the children to gain an education with a chance for a future. He has eased the pain for so many – countless men, women and children. He has also fed many and most importantly, he has managed to bring smiles and laughter back into the lives of so many who have been affected by the trauma of the war in Syria. To the brothers who are holding our dear beloved Tox, remember- he is not your enemy – he is your brother in Islam who sincerely loves his brothers in Islam. He does the truth, he speaks the truth and only acts upon the truth. I pray Allah SWT returns him to his loving family and loved ones. I pray that the pain that is being felt in his mothers heart is eased with the speedy return to his family. Oh Allah SWT, we thank you for everything. POWERFUL MESSAGE FROM TOX'S ELDEST SISTER “I actually feel broken inside, I feel like my heart has been pulled out. I know we are not the only ones who have suffered this pain, but so many before and so many now. I do believe we are not special, that we will be tested. To mind comes the story of Yusuf (AS) he was accused and rumours were spread about him. Even those he loved turned against him. False news spreads fast. Allah is the All Knower Alhamdulilah. You are my little baby brother, the one I always protected as a big sister. These eight years you have been apart from us and only by the mercy of Allah we did not feel it. Yes, we missed you and yes, we wished you were at so and sos wedding or birth and felt sad you couldn't be here when grandad or taya passed away. But we felt contentment and comfort knowing you were doing something amazing for the orphans and widows. In a strange way, we felt our sacrifice of not having you here meant we were also in a way getting rewarded for what you were doing. We are proud and so honoured to have you as our little brother. Except now is the first time our worry is exploding, we are engulfed in fear and are agonising over your treatment. Have you eaten properly? Are you sleeping properly? Do you know what's happening? Are you mentally and physically fine? It's not a UK prison, it's a syrian prison, will you get the same rights as you do in the UK. At the moment it does not seem so, it took 5 days for mum to hear from you and that was a quick 5 min call which was heavily monitored. Things can all seem nice and smooth in public but there are always other things happening in private. I know baby brother it's not easy, I know you're confused, I know you dont even know what it is that you have supposedly done. I also know that rumours will spread, the fitna has already started but rest assured we all have your back and you have our unconditional support.
