Here are some real mistakes cost students marks and how you can avoid them 👇 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 ❌ Mistake: Overwriting → Examiner Missed Correct Answer (Q2b) 👉 Fix: If overwritten, rewrite neatly nearby + circle the final answer. ❌ Mistake: Writing Only Headings Without Description in theory (Q1c) 👉 Fix: Write head points as is + add 1–2 lines description with keywords. ❌ Mistake: Wrong Exchange Rate calculated in 1st step → Entire Answer Wrong - Zero marks (Q5a) 👉 Fix: Your first step is the base, it must be accurate. ❌ Mistake: Using Company Beta as Asset Beta (Q1a) 👉 Fix: If not specified, assume Equity Beta. ❌ Mistake: Considering Depreciation as Appreciation (Q1b) This was a repeated question (TYK 17 – Pg 10.60). 👉 Fix: Highlight important point in question paper and Practice ICAI Study Material in ICAI’s format. ❌ Mistake: Multiplying 1.04 as 1.4 (Q2a) 👉 Fix: Review answers, if numbers look weird. ❌ Mistake: Solving for Effective Interest Instead of Settlement Amount (Q2b) 👉 Fix: Highlight the question requirement before solving. ❌ Mistake: Calculated Portfolio Risk Using Sharpe Instead of Markowitz (Q4a) 👉 Fix: If method not specified, solve both approaches. ❌ Mistake: Overcomplicating NAV Question (Q5b) 👉 Fix: Use simple opening closing NAV formula. After solving, think “Is there a simpler method?” and write alternatives. ❌ Mistake: Missing First Step in Money Market Hedge (Q6b) 👉 Fix: Never skip the PV step. 🎯 Final Takeaway In AFM, students don’t lose marks because they don’t know concepts. They lose marks due to: ✔️ wrong interpretation ✔️ missing conclusions ✔️ incorrect first steps ✔️ untidy presentation ✔️ ignoring ICAI-style solutions Small improvements can save 10–20 marks easily.
