Should I tip my landlord this month? Hello everyone. I’d appreciate some perspective on this situation. For some context, I moved to the United States about 2.5 years ago and have been renting a flat in a small apartment complex for about two years. My landlord has generally been friendly and easy to deal with, so whenever he’s prompted me to tip, I’ve typically given 20% on top of my rent. Tipping isn’t really a common practice where I’m from, but I understand that tipping is an important part of American culture in many industries, particularly because some workers rely on tips to make a decent wage. However, things have changed recently. My landlord has become increasingly unhelpful when I’ve needed maintenance or repairs. For example, I recently had a significant leak under my kitchen sink. It took more than a week for the issue to be fixed, and I’m now concerned that the leak may have caused mold or mildew to develop inside the cabinets. Despite bringing this up, my landlord has not addressed the potential mold/mildew issue. Rent is coming up again, and I’m debating whether I should tip my landlord this month. I understand that tipping is legally optional, but it seems to be increasingly expected in the U.S. At the same time, I’m starting to question why I should be giving a 20% tip to my landlord when basic maintenance issues aren’t being handled in a timely manner. Part of me also wonders whether withholding the tip might send a message and encourage him to take my concerns more seriously. He already knows that I’m frustrated with the situation. So, what would you do? Would you still tip your landlord, tip less, or skip the tip altogether? 👍 Tip ❤️ Don’t tip 👏 Less tip
