i just completed reading "fruit fly" by josh silver and i would just like to point out how geniusly it is written. it’s so refreshing and so bingeable you can easily read it in two days (it took me five days but that’s fine because i hadn’t been reading earlier, so five days was a good pace for me.) the book is so brilliant at what it does. it’s really about who has the right to represent whom. can you really write for someone else? who can write for whom? it explores the representation problem that we see. there’s mallory one of the mcs who is so pretentious that i was actuallyfrustrated initially. she just wants to be a good person in her own head and that’s what she wants to portray outside as well but in reality it’s not that way. not everyone is good. some people just accept that but some people want to portray themselves as being so good and that’s what makes them become the way mallory is in this book. the ending was so so cool. the whole book is so cool, it’s amazing and genius and i’m so glad i read it. it’s about how fruit flies are often attracted to decay and rot yk? and in this book we see two perspectives and how both of them are attracted to each other’s decay and rot and how that shapes their entire lives from that moment onwards. it’s really interesting. i would suggest all of you pick it up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

the idea is very simple - one book a month and we will have no ridiculous reading schedules, no pressure to finish half a novel in three days, nothing of that sort, we’ll take it slow. i’ll choose the first book and after that we can decide together what we want to read next. we’ll divide each book into manageable portions and set a deadline for each one. for example if a book has 60 chapters, we’ll divide those chapters across the month. if it has only 12 chapters maybe we’ll read two chapters over nine or ten days. basically we’ll figure out a pace that actually gives everyone time to read and think about what they’re reading. once everyone has finished that section we’ll have a little discussion about thoughts, interpretations, favourite passages, characters we hate, characters we defend, questionable literary opinions, everything, and then we move on to the next section. i really want this to be something we actually stick with instead of another book club that disappears after two meetings thik h na? soooo let me know if you’d be interested in joining and if you have any ideas for how we could make it more fun or keep everyone engaged please lmk! i’m genuinely very excited about this. and please don’t let me announce this to the void 😭 if there’s not enough interest i’ll simply abandon the idea and find some other platform/club to join, but if you’re interested say something. let’s actually read some books together.

okay people hear me out. i’ve been thinking about starting a book club of my own. i’ve been part of quite a few book clubs before but they’ve all been so irregular that atp i think most of them are dead and honestly i’ve been struggling with reading lately too. up until my first year i used to absolutely devour books. i’d finish them in a night or two, borrow two books a week from the library, and my library card was perpetually full. and then at some point i just stopped reading. now i’m at the point where i read one book a month if i’m lucky or sometimes one book in three months, and it’s become ridiculously inconsistent. so i thought why not create something that might actually get me and hopefully some of you reading again?
