Heroic Times (Daliás idők) is a 1984 Hungarian animated historical epic directed by József Gémes. The feature film adapts the classic Toldi epic poem trilogy written by János Arany. It is globally renowned for its experimental production technique, as a small team of artists hand-painted every single frame using oil paints. This massive undertaking required several years of labor and resulted in tens of thousands of moving oil paintings. The final masterpiece won the award for Best Full-Length Feature Film at the 1985 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
