➡️Sarna Religious Code
Sarna is an indigenous tribal faith mainly followed in Jharkhand and nearby states.
Followers worship nature, sacred groves, village deities, forests, and ancestors.
👉Hemant Soren demanded a separate Sarna religion code in the Census.
Currently, Sarna followers are mostly counted under “Other Religions and Persuasions (ORP)” or sometimes under Hindu category.
👉The demand aims to:
🔹protect tribal cultural identity,
🔹obtain accurate population data,
🔹improve targeted welfare policies,
🔹ensure constitutional recognition.
👉Supporters argue that separate recognition will strengthen tribal rights and inclusive governance.
👉Opponents argue it may:
🔹complicate Census operations,
🔹increase demands from other tribal faiths,
🔹encourage identity-based politics.
