*Joint statement by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff:* A short time ago, a discussion took place between the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff, and the Commander of the Northern Command. The IDF will continue to act decisively to thwart threats against our soldiers and civilians, to destroy terrorist infrastructure, and to maintain the security zone in southern Lebanon. The Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff made it clear that the security of Israel’s citizens and IDF forces will continue to remain their top priority, without compromise.

A Jewish man was killed in an attack in the Jewish neighborhood of Montreal, Canada. Authorities are investigating the possibility that he was accidentally hit by police gunfire.

Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz: The security of Israel's citizens and the safety of our forces stand above all other considerations. The commanders and soldiers of the IDF have the full backing of the Prime Minister, myself, and the IDF high command—and full freedom of action to operate decisively against any threat: in southern Lebanon, in the Gaza Strip, and wherever necessary to defend the State of Israel. Our soldiers and commanders act with bravery, neutralize threats, and protect day and night the residents of the north, the south, and all citizens of Israel. The IDF will remain in the security zone in Lebanon to defend the northern communities, prevent threats, and destroy terrorist infrastructure on the ground and underground.

Despite statements by Netanyahu and Katz: IDF commanders have been significantly restricted in Lebanon, and now soldiers are allowed to open fire only in response to an immediate threat — unless they receive direct approval from the Chief of Staff, according to a New York Times report citing two Israeli sources. In addition, without authorization from senior officers, IDF soldiers are prohibited from demolishing houses and infrastructure within the security zone.

Defense Minister Israel Katz informed the heads of the local authorities that nine additional northern communities have been officially recognized as frontline communities. The communities—Sde Eliezer, Kisra-Sumei, Yesod HaMa’ala, Or HaGanuz, Meron, Bar Yochai, Safsufa (Kfar Hoshen), Beit Jann, and Hulata—have been designated as frontline communities and will join the list of localities eligible for the benefits and support granted to such communities.

The Shin Bet stated: A few months ago, as part of the process of assuming the role and studying various threats, the head of the Shin Bet conducted a tour in Eilat, part of which took place in cooperation with the army, during which different preparedness measures were examined. It was emphasized that there is no concrete information or warning, only thorough operational planning and a study of threats across all areas of the agency’s work.

Somalia claims that Israel has deployed 50 soldiers on Somaliland’s soil, primarily of Ethiopian descent so as not to attract attention. Last week, Defense Minister Katz spoke about “a series of under‑the‑radar collaborations” with Somaliland.

The Americans are expressing optimism — Vice President Vance: There is progress in the negotiations; Iran has agreed to allow IAEA inspectors to examine its nuclear facilities.

According to a report in *Haaretz*, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar-Zini has warned in closed discussions that “the next October 7 could happen in Eilat.” Zini reportedly instructed senior officials in the agency to prioritize the scenario of a possible attack on the city, viewing Eilat as a security weak point mainly because of its geographically isolated location. In discussions within and outside the Shin Bet, he cautioned about the possibility of a ground incursion into the city from its land borders—particularly from the Jordanian border—and possibly even from the sea. According to sources, Zini is directing the agency’s intelligence units to prepare for a scenario of an attack on the city; however, in the wider defense establishment, some doubt the significance Zini attributes to such a scenario and question whether there is any intelligence indicating a planned attack.
