context: MS Dhoni shaved his head after winning the 2011 World Cup as a fulfillment of a pledge or "mannat" (vow) he had made to the gods. He had pledged to shave his head if India won the tournament. The hair was to be offered at a temple in Tirupati, and he did it in the middle of the night in his hotel room after the team's celebrations.
