Fyodor Dostoevsky Lithuanian ancestry legacy 🇱🇹 In a 1897 letter by Anna Grigorievna Dostoevskaya, who was Fyodor's widow, wrote about her husband repeatedly told that his family originally came from Lithuania during Grand duchy of Lithuania, from Pyotr Dostoevsky a marshal of Pinsk, who was elected to the Sejm in 1598. The family has lived in Dostoevo, near Pinsk. Even more strikingly is that even Fyodor's daughter Lyubov Dostoevskaya wrote that she had heard her own father and uncles say: “Мы, Достоевские, литовцы, но не поляки” - We Dostoevskys are Lithuanians, but not Poles.

We shall know how to die, if the Homeland demands a sacrifice. No one shall bind our ranks with the evil chains of slavery. We have not learned to bow before the new law of invaders: To sell our own brother - no, we have not all learned that yet! We shall defend this land, as our ancestors defended it in olden days, Carrying the voice of our native soil deepest within our hearts. Though the fields and roads have been flooded with the groaning of the enslaved, Wherever you listen - all around, you hear only the footsteps of strangers. And surely there will come a day when, through a forest of fluttering flags, The white Vytis shall rise and shine high in the heavens! Our blood shall sing, bursting forth through the soil of our homeland, And upon the bleak grave, bright cups of lilies shall bloom. The trains shall thunder back, having carried away the share of our youth, And all the enchantments shall fade, as the crescent wanes beneath the sickle. Our fathers returned, our sisters from Komi, from the Urals, Shall kneel here, weeping, and kiss their native soil. We shall know how to die - not for another man's thought or word, Not for those who oppress, covering everything in the darkness of lies. Only for the dawn that will reveal the majestic sun of freedom - We shall know how to die with a joyful face and an unwavering spirit. - Diana Glemžaitė. 🇱🇹 We Will Learn How to Die, Partizan Poem

"Our geographical position has imposed special responsibilities upon us. We serve as intermediaries between East and West. Caught between two distinct cultures, we must preserve our own distinctiveness. The emerging Lithuanian intellectual will be exposed to both cultures, but must not be influenced by them. Our national characteristics, forged over the centuries, have remained alive and authentic to this day. The traditions of our forefathers, our customs, our emotions, and our aspirations have remained purely our own and distinctly Lithuanian. Admittedly, our distinctiveness has been somewhat diminished by the political invasion of our neighbors, but their influence was largely external in nature, while the nation’s inner values have remained pure in the depths of the peasants’ souls. Now the time has come to declare our true values to the world. Everything that is dear to us was hidden from our enemies in the depths of our souls. The true meaning of our hard-won freedom lies in the fact that our national characteristics - our true and eternal self - must henceforth neither be suppressed nor concealed, but triumphantly respected and cherished by all. Our national characteristics, our eternal soul, and our strongest bond of unity are the Lithuanian spirit that has survived in our blood." — M. Jonaitis | Akademikas 1933-Nr.16 @NEWLTU

Lithuanians are inclined towards expansion and cosmopolitanism, towards distant spaces and the search for happiness abroad. This inclination led them to the Black Sea in ancient times. A Lithuanian is attracted to everything foreign; he is bored with everything his own; he does not want to lag behind fashion, he is ashamed to show others what he is; he wants to be like the fashionable and adapt to them. And now, for many of us, it's more interesting to learn about what life is like abroad than at home. - Antanas Smetona. 🇱🇹 The Basis of Education - Nationality (1935)

Hallucinations of progressives flourishing with the advent of the Screen in the technical sense of the word, of virtual reality and the hundreds of hallucinations that arose with it, first and foremost catastrophically intensifying the little braggart’s pretension to become something other than what he is, existing only insofar as his banal condition is determined by his earthly fate. The fantastically rapidly advancing Screen turns that imbecilic pretension into a paranoid everyday reality and a constant contempt for the simplest earthly condition of the mortal and for his earthly fate. [...] And now it is completely clear that fewer and fewer points of contact remain between the pre-Screen and post-Screen human being, and it is not difficult to foresee that very soon there will no longer even be a common measure between them: what could possibly connect the madmen of the Screen with a normal mortal. - Arvydas Šliogeris. 🇱🇹 Metaphysics of Potatoes

Estonians and Lithuanians are especially close to my soul. Although I sit with them on equal terms, I am so ashamed in front of them as if I had imprisoned them. Unspoiled, hard-working, true to the word, unassuming – why are they drawn into a quarrel under the same damned blades? They didn’t touch anyone, they lived quietly, arrangedly and morally more than us – and now they are guilty because we want to eat, because they live under our elbow and fence us off from the sea. «It's a shame to be Russian!» – Herzen exclaimed as we strangled Poland. It’s twice as shameful to be Soviet in front of these inconspicuous, defenseless peoples. - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. 🇷🇺 Gulag Archipelago

🌟 The solar eclipse moment is a great symbol at the heart of this channel I represent, the Sun going dark, the serpent tightening its coil, and the Son of Nothing spirit emerges waiting beyond the ancient light. It stands as an omen of the darkness to come, and of the force that may awaken within man.

The homeland is the place where our parents live and where we ourselves were born or at least raised [...] People and their works are inevitably tied to the homeland. However, the land is also the foundation. It carries people, and their journeys take place in its space. [...] The homeland is not just soil. It is all of its nature, with fields and meadows, with valleys and mountains, with rivers and lakes, with air, with a piece of sky, even with birds and animals. The homeland is that particle of universal nature where a person first encounters material reality. Here, a child experiences what all of humanity experienced in its infancy, namely: its ontological connection with nature.  - Antanas Maceina. 🇱🇹 National Education (1934)

The modern Lithuanian concept of suicide is that of a Westernised world-weary individual who negates life out of a tiredness or sense of despondency, the old Lithuanian suicide concept is similar to that of harakiri a way of honor and order in death, which affirms the freedom necessary for a Lithuanians way of life, and in the face of imprisonment, prefers to choose its own freedom. In the final moment of death one affirms their own life by declaring through the act that if one can not live fully, the only way fitting for such a noble being, it is best not to live at all. Next to the Prussians are the Samogitians, a hardy race whose lifestyle has nothing at all in common with that of its neighbors, nor its language. This race believes in the gods Apollo and Artemis. AN ITALIAN ON LITHUANIA "Rome and Vilnius, Italy and Lithuania - two distant lands whose historical journeys and moments in life sometimes bore striking similarities; the fate of these nations, like the sun, would occasionally shine through, at times reflecting the everyday lives of geniuses and heroes, and at other times the bitterness of a cruel reality. <...> <...> A nation that, it seems, was fighting and dying for independence just yesterday, and in whose capital the great and enthusiastic cry of “Roma o morte!” must understand - if the noble spirit of Garibaldi’s men has not yet died in its heart - that the Lithuanian nation and its sons, too, will know how to fight and die with the cry, “Vilnius or death!” We do not want pity; we do not ask for mercy; we demand rights and justice! Only the enforcement of rights and justice! And we are pleased to note that this demand finds an echo in the hearts and consciences of Italian society and its youth. It is only natural to believe in the possible and beneficial cooperation between Lithuanian and Italian youth, and we hope that the cry “Justice pour la Lituanie” will find a wide response and numerous supporters among Italian youth."
