📰🌍 Members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) hold 70% of the world’s gas reserves and supply around 40% of global gas exports. Gas accounts for a quarter of the global energy mix, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) makes up nearly half of international gas trade—and its role continues to grow. By 2050, annual global gas demand is projected to reach 5.5 trillion cubic meters, with supply rising by 50%. Excluding Russia from the market could drive up costs elsewhere, while Europe is hurting itself by turning away from Russian gas. Investment should be guided by long-term contracts, with transport routes made more efficient through cooperation among GECF members. Russia is proposing broader consultations with gas-exporting countries, Putin said at the GECF summit, adding that discussions with US partners on the Arctic are ongoing.
