One misconception I used to have a few years ago and one I still see many people fall into is the idea that Arabic culture, language, literature, and films are exclusively tied to Islam.
The reality is much broader.
Arabic is a language spoken by people from different religions, backgrounds, and traditions.
Some of the most beautiful Arabic poetry, novels, songs, and films explore universal themes: love, grief, identity, family, and the search for meaning.
Recently, I started discovering Arabic poetry, films, and music, and it made me realize how much I had been limiting my own perspective. What surprised me most was not how different these works felt, but how familiar they were. Beneath the language and cultural context, I found stories and emotions that felt deeply human and relatable.
Sometimes the biggest barrier to understanding another culture is the assumption that we already know what it is.

I am the sea. In my depths all treasures dwell. Have they asked the divers about my pearls?

You think I’m weak, don’t you? All those years ago when we first fell in love, your father would say I was too sweet for my own good. Maybe he was right. You tell me it’s a cruel world and we’re all running around in circles. I know that. I’ve been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I’m not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It’s how I’ve learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight.🎬 :Everything Everywhere All at Once

sooo, here’s a little life update
🌸
last (last )sunday i had one of the nicest dates with Yodit. we went out for pastries 🥐 talked for hours, and somehow ended up discussing everything from life to business. she’s one of the most authentic people i’ve met from the community. she’s young, stepping into the entrepreneurial world, and i basically turned our conversation into an interview because i’m collecting as much wisdom as i can before graduation (thank you )
🌸
🎥Movie: watched Alazar 🤩
All That's Left of You(sad sad)
i told you guys i’ve been dealing with brain fog lately, so i’ve been trying to take better care of myself. since i’m not going to the gym right now, i started running instead and even made a Strava account. i’ve also been cutting down on all-nighters (okay... there was one this week👩🦯➡️), but overall i’m sleeping better and trying to keep work for daytime 💚(morning run 5:30-6:00)
i started learning japanese again, picked music back up, and (tho on Duolingo for now)it feels nice to return to things i enjoy
🌸i’ve also started way too many technical projects and lessons at the same time. some habits never change(cool cool )🌸
🌸on the academic side, my final year project is finally working. the AI model is fine-tuned, my progress defense went well, and i’m pretty proud of that 🌸
🌸currently reading No Longer Human and i’m loving it so far. can’t wait to finish it..🌸
🌸
also, i’m sooo happy that i bought a bunch of books at the book festival. books feel like one of those things you never regret having around, especially because... well, we never know
🌸
for the sake of my mental stability, i have officially returned to my permanent crush after briefly entertaining a temporary one. balance has been restored 😂
i’ve discovered so many good songs lately too will share in the comments 💛
the only strange feeling rn is that classes are ending soon. i spent so long looking forward to graduation, but now that it’s actually close, i’m feeling a little sad about it. funny how that works…
anyway, that’s the wrap.
