Repost from UPSC PRELIMS 2026
Periyar River System
The Periyar River, originating from the Western Ghats near Sivagiri Hills, is approximately 244 km long, making it the longest river in Kerala. It flows westward into the Arabian Sea and supports extensive irrigation, drinking water supply, and hydroelectric generation. Major dams on the river include Mullaperiyar, Idukki, Edamalayar, and Lower Periyar. Its tributaries —Muthirapuzha, Cheruthoni, and Perinjankutty contribute significantly to the river’s flow. The Periyar basin is vital to the agriculture and economy of central Kerala. https://t.me/upscprelimsmaterialss

Title: The Last Bus
Arjun was tired of failing. Exams, interviews, even friendships — everything seemed to slip away. One night, after another rejection, he decided to go for a walk. At the bus stop, he saw an old man sitting calmly, waiting. “The last bus left an hour ago,” Arjun said. The old man smiled, “I know. But another will come tomorrow. I just like waiting — it reminds me that life always gives another chance.” Those words stayed in Arjun’s heart. He went home, slept peacefully for the first time in weeks, and woke up early to try again. He studied harder, learned from every mistake, and within months, landed his dream job. Years later, whenever he felt low, he remembered that night and whispered to himself — “Maybe my bus hasn’t come yet… but it will.” Moral: Failure isn’t the end — it’s just a stop before your next ride. @DumpYourPainbot

India is developing a Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) under the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2022 to regulate and incentivize greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction. However, experiences from countries such as Kenya show risks like land alienation, weak community consent, and inequitable benefit-sharing, underscoring the need for safeguards in India’s framework. https://t.me/upscdatafactory

The India Justice Report highlights a serious gender imbalance in India’s higher judiciary. Women constitute only 14% of High Court judges and 3.1% of Supreme Court judges. Out of 34 Supreme Court judges, only one is a woman, who is likely to become India’s first woman Chief Justice of India. https://t.me/upscdatafactory

What is LWE?
Left-Wing Extremism refers to armed insurgency led primarily by the CPI (Maoist), aimed at overthrowing the Indian State through revolutionary means. The movement has been concentrated in the tribal and forested regions of Central and Eastern India, often referred to as the Red Corridor. Origin: Naxalbari Uprising (1967, West Bengal) led by Charu Mazumdar and Kanu Sanyal. Expanded through parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Telangana, and Maharashtra. Described by PM Manmohan Singh (2010) as “India’s biggest internal security challenge." https://t.me/upscdatafactory
