💡 Electricity is an essential part of life, powering homes, industries and businesses. In India, it has evolved from a basic utility to a cornerstone of economic growth, social development, and improved quality of life. India consumed around 1.4 million gigawatt hours[1] of electricity in 2024, a quarter of which was used by over 300 million households for domestic purposes. ⚡ There has been a significant expansion in the access of Indian households to electricity over the last two decades. In 2000, only about 60% of the population had access to electricity. By 2024, this figure had risen to 98%. Access is now widespread across the country, with most states having achieved coverage above 95%.

According to 2025 data from Ethnologue, published by Our World in Data, Papua New Guinea leads globally with 843 living languages, followed by Indonesia (709), Nigeria (530), India (454), and China (309). Together, these five countries account for more than 2,800 country-level language occurrences, reflecting extraordinary linguistic concentration across Oceania, Asia, and Africa. At the opposite end, 15 countries record just two or three living languages each. Antigua and Barbuda, Cabo Verde, Kiribati, the Maldives, the Marshall Islands, and North Korea each have two, while Iceland, Barbados, Cuba, and several Pacific and Caribbean island nations record three. Linguistic diversity reflects centuries of migration, geographic isolation, cultural development, and historical exchange. However, the number of languages spoken within a country does not necessarily indicate their vitality.

A century of U.S. National Debt tells us a very interesting story. What started as a couple hundred billion dollars in 1926 has now crossed $40 trillion in 2026, growing by roughly 2,045 times. Here are some standout growth moments: 1) WWII (1940–1945): 43.2% CAGR, debt up ~6x, when the US borrowed massively to fund wartime production and the war effort. 2) 1943 alone: +88.7% YoY, the single fastest year in the series. Peak war financing, with debt nearly doubling in one fiscal year. 3) Stagflation/defense buildup (1976–1986): 13.1% CAGR due to high inflation, rising interest costs, and the early Reagan defense and tax-cut era drove debt up. 4) 2007–2009 and 2019–2020 (financial crisis and COVID): ~15 to 19% CAGR/YoY. Driven by emergency stimulus and bailout spending during two separate economic shocks, though both cooled back toward trend within a couple of years.

India’s Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2025 estimates that 22.7 lakh cattle and 1.51 crore buffaloes were slaughtered for+1
India’s Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics 2025 estimates that 22.7 lakh cattle and 1.51 crore buffaloes were slaughtered for meat in 2024–25, roughly 6.7 buffaloes for every cattle animal. Cattle here includes cows, bulls, bullocks (castrated males) and calves. Buffaloes are a separate category. These figures cover 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025, rather than calendar year 2025. The two maps reveal very different geographical patterns. Kerala and Tamil Nadu together account for about 62.5% of cattle slaughter, with Meghalaya contributing another 14.7%. For buffaloes, Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for roughly one-third of the national total, at 50.41 lakh animals, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana and Kerala. Kerala features prominently in both categories, while Tamil Nadu’s buffalo slaughter estimate is comparatively small. This distinction matters when discussing beef in India. According to UDISE+ 2025–26, India has 1,00,843 such schools, serving about 29.1 lakh students, that is 6.88% of all schools nationwide. Andhra Pradesh has the highest share at 26.88%, followed by Jharkhand at 22.14% and Himachal Pradesh at 18.33%. These figures include government, aided and private schools. Having one teacher makes a school heavily dependent on a single person. Where children are spread across different grades, that teacher must manage several lessons alongside administrative responsibilities. Illness or leave also requires someone else to provide cover. However, a small school can provide essential access in a remote village, where closing it could mean a difficult journey for young children.

Punjab leads state-wise per capita milk availability at 1,318 grams per day, followed closely by Rajasthan (1,229g) and Haryana (1,128g) — over 2.5 times the national average of 485g. At the other end, Delhi records just 52g and DNH & DD only 4g. The map highlights sharp regional divides in dairy production and consumption across India, shaped by agro-climatic conditions, livestock density, and dietary patterns.
