After taking the stage for their victory performance, Switzerland’s winning Eurovision entrant Nemo broke the coveted trophy, and later revealed they’d also injured their thumb in the process. Nemo is the first non-binary winner of Eurovision, and their song, “The Code,” is Switzerland’s third ever Eurovision win. Celine Dion last won in 1988.

In her final months, Carolynne St. Pierre worried that her youngest son would be too young to remember her. But 17 years after she died, he is continuing a project she started with photographer Preston Gannaway. Carolynne St. Pierre was just 44 years old when she died from a rare form of liver cancer in 2007. The mother of three was a maternity nurse in Concord, New Hampshire. “That was a big part of her identity,” Gannaway said. “She was a wonderful mother and just such a natural, sensitive, caretaker in so many ways. And she had just a fantastic sense of humor. She was known for her quick wit and was making jokes up until the very end.” In her final months, St. Pierre opened up her home to Gannaway, who at the time was working for the Concord Monitor newspaper. Switzerland’s Nemo won a chaotic and politically fraught Eurovision Song Contest, triumphing in a competition in Sweden that was upstaged by controversy over the presence of Israel. The typically jovial event – one of the most-watched in the world’s cultural calendar – descended into turmoil in recent days, as organizers tried and failed to contain anger aimed towards Israel’s delegation. But Nemo, a favorite throughout the process, won over crowds with a stunning rendition of “The Code,” a genre-bending anthem about their journey towards accepting their non-binary identity. A second chance to view the magnificent auroras that were seen around the world -- caused by a series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections -- will arrive this evening, in case you missed the spectacular first act. Auroras might be seen as far south as Alabama Saturday, according to the NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. In general, it's good to start looking during the time right after sunset. "As I was laying there, I was just thinking to myself, 'I can do it.'" Tamiah Brevard-Rodriguez had a plan leading up to her April 24 due date. Coined "Operation Dissertation Before Baby," the plan included completing her dissertation for her doctorate at Rutgers Graduate School of Education, then having her baby in time to celebrate graduation and the summer with family. In that order. But it didn't happen that way. On March 25, the morning of her dissertation, she went into labor. She wound up giving birth to Enzo in the car on the way to the hospital. After doctors checked them out, she took a nap, ate a meal and was ready to rock her defense presentation. Brevard-Rodriguez logged onto her laptop from her hospital bed, and for about twenty to thirty minutes, she gave her presentation. And then when it was over, she took down her Rutgers background on Zoom, revealing the hospital. "Everyone was in complete shock," she says. A series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections have created dazzling auroras that may be seen as far south as Georgia and Northern California -- but could also disrupt communications on Earth tonight and over the weekend. Increased solar activity causes auroras that dance around Earth’s poles, known as the northern lights, or aurora borealis, and southern lights, or aurora australis. When the energized particles reach Earth’s magnetic field, they interact with gases in the atmosphere to light up the sky with different colors. The ongoing geomagnetic storm is now "extreme," or level 5 out of 5, the Space Weather Prediction Center said Friday night. This is the first G5-level storm since October 2003. The solar storm will likely continue through the weekend, the prediction center said Friday. French football superstar Kylian Mbappé will leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the season, the 25-year-old confirmed in a video posted on social media Friday. Mbappé said he will not extend his contract with the French club and that he will play his final match at the Parc des Princes on Sunday when PSG hosts Toulouse. “I have always known, but I think I needed this, a new challenge after seven years,” Mbappé said. “It’s difficult and of course, there are some people I want to thank above all, these are the fans.
