The Biden administration is quickly invoking an authority to shut off access to asylum for migrants who cross the US-Mexico border illegally, senior officials said Tuesday, a significant attempt by President Joe Biden to address head on one of his biggest political vulnerabilities. Biden unveiled the sweeping executive action Tuesday afternoon at the White House, attempting to use executive action to affect the situation on the border after a bipartisan measure failed earlier this year. The action marks the administration’s most dramatic move on the US southern border as Biden tries to gain the upper hand on immigration just weeks from the first presidential debate – by using the same authority former President Donald Trump tried to use in office. The White House announced the action would take effect at midnight. San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano has been banned for life by Major League Baseball for betting on baseball games. As well as announcing Marcano's punishment, the MLB also on Tuesday banned four other baseball players for a year apiece for violating betting rules. According to an MLB investigation, Marcano placed 387 baseball bets, including 231 MLB-related ones, over two periods in 2022 and 2023 while he was a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates and while he was on the injured list. He gambled more than $150,000 on baseball, with $87,319 of that on MLB-related bets. The MLB probe found that "almost all of Marcano's Pirates bets were on which club (the Pirates or their opponent) would win the game or whether there would be more or less than a certain number of runs scored in the game." But in Morales’ Disneyland videos, happiness is a common theme that resonates with viewers — and catches them by surprise. China's Chang'e-6 lunar probe departed from the far side of the moon, moving a step closer to completing an ambitious mission that underlines the country's rise as a space superpower. In a symbolic moment before takeoff, China also reportedly became the first country to display its national flag on the moon's far side, which permanently faces away from Earth. The probe, carrying the first lunar rocks ever collected from the far side of the moon, took off and entered lunar orbit early Tuesday Beijing time, following successful sample collection over the previous two days, according to a statement from the China National Space Administration. Former President Donald Trump, who faces the possibility of a prison sentence after he was convicted last week on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, falsely claimed in a new interview on Fox News that he didn’t make a “lock her up” call for the imprisonment of his Democratic opponent of the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton.

Her breath reeked of alcohol. She was dizzy, disoriented and weak, so much so that one day she passed out and hit her head on a kitchen counter while making lunch for her school-age children. Yet not a drop of liquor had passed her lips, a fact that the 50-year-old Toronto woman and her husband told doctors for two years before someone actually believed her. All of the emergency room doctors questioned the Toronto woman’s drinking habits, and she was examined by three different hospital psychiatrists who concluded that she did not meet the criteria for the diagnosis of alcohol use disorder. “She told doctors her religion does not allow drinking, and her husband verified she did not drink,” said Dr. Rahel Zewude, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Toronto who treated the woman. “But it wasn’t until the seventh visit that an emergency room doctor finally said, ‘I think this sounds like auto-brewery syndrome,’ and sent her to a specialist,” Zewude said. Mexico is set to elect its first female president, with preliminary results showing Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico City’s former mayor and climate scientist, is on track to win the country’s largest election in history. Sheinbaum has won between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote, according to what is known as Quick Count, an exercise that the National Electoral Institute carries out based on a statistical sample of ballots from polling stations. The 61-year-old rode the wave of popularity of her longtime political ally, the outgoing leftist Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and their Morena party. Not only is she set to be Mexico’s first female president, Sheinbaum will also be the country’s first leader of Jewish heritage, although she rarely speaks publicly about her personal background and has governed as a secular leftist. Simone Biles won a record-extending ninth all-around national title at the US Gymnastics Championships on Sunday, impressing ahead of next month’s Olympics in Paris.
