For all of Australia's beauty and its relaxed reputation, it might be hard to imagine that many people in the country feel overworked. The government has now stepped in to protect people's "right to disconnect" with a new law - and as of Monday, employees won't have to answer out-of-hours calls, texts or emails. Grey areas remain, and while there still may be times an employer requires an answer out-of-hours, workers can now defend their "right to disconnect" in court if they want to.

The supermarket baby food aisle in the United States is packed with non-nutritious foods containing far too much sugar and salt and misleading marketing claims, a new study found. Sixty percent of 651 foods that are marketed for children ages 6 months to 36 months on 10 supermarkets' shelves in the US failed to meet recommended World Health Organization nutritional guidelines for infant and toddler foods, according to the study, which was published this month in the peer-reviewed journal Nutrients. Almost none of the foods met all of the WHO standards for advertising, which focus on clear labeling of ingredients and accurate health claims. US Customs and Border Protection officers in California discovered a supposed watermelon shipment wasn't what it seemed when they uncovered more than $5 million worth of methamphetamine concealed inside, the agency said. A 29-year-old man driving a commercial tractor-trailer attempted to enter the United States from Mexico with a shipment manifested for watermelons, CBP said in a news release Tuesday. Officers at the agency's Otay Mesa Commercial Facility near San Diego referred the driver, his vehicle and cargo for additional examination, according to the release. The shipment containing what was reported to be watermelons was offloaded and officers discovered 1,220 packages of methamphetamine wrapped in paper and disguised as the fruit, the agency said. Hezbollah launched multiple strikes at Israel overnight in retaliation for the killing of a top military commander last month. Israel launched what it called "preemptive strikes" against the group prior to the attack, saying it destroyed rocket launchers. This was one of the biggest exchanges yet after months of clashes. The Israeli military launched what it called “preemptive” strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, as the Iran-backed militant group said it carried out its own attacks in response to the killing of a top commander. The overnight strikes are some of the most serious yet between Israel and Hezbollah, who have been exchanging fire for months. The hostilities have raised the specter of a regional conflagration, prompting intense diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions. The IDF said about 100 of its fighter jets “struck and destroyed thousands of Hezbollah rocket launcher barrels” across dozens of launch sites from Lebanon. It followed these up with further attacks later in the day. A statue honoring civil rights hero and US Congressman John Lewis was unveiled Saturday outside of Atlanta, replacing a Confederate monument that had stood there for more than a century. The statue stands 12 feet tall atop a granite pedestal and depicts Lewis with his hands over his heart, a gesture he frequently used to express his love for others. Lewis was one of the original Freedom Riders who rode segregated buses in the 1960s to protest racial segregation in the South. He served as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and was one of the “Big Six” civil rights leaders who organized the March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech. In 1965, Lewis was brutally beaten by police and state troopers in Alabama while leading hundreds of peaceful civil rights marchers in the first Selma to Montgomery march, in what became known as “Bloody Sunday.” He served as a US representative for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District from 1987 until his death in 2020. A SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule will bring home two NASA astronauts who have remained on board the International Space Station for more than 80 days because of issues plaguing the Boeing Starliner spacecraft — marking a stunning turn of events for the beleaguered aerospace giant. The Starliner vehicle, which carried astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore to the space station in early June, suffered setbacks with helium leaks and thrusters that abruptly stopped working on the initial leg of its first crewed test flight. Engineers spent weeks attempting to better understand the issues, and Boeing said as recently as August 2 that its "confidence remains high" that the spacecraft would be able to return Williams and Wilmore to Earth. Khin Mar Cho worries for her 4-year-old son as she struggles to scrape together enough food to feed him in a makeshift displacement camp at a crowded monastery in western Myanmar. Soldiers had stormed their village in Byine Phyu, Rakhine State, shooting her brother and taking away the men, forcing survivors to flee to the monastery just outside the regional capital Sittwe. There, a lone monk is struggling to feed the 280 people who have sought refuge inside the camp as a three-year civil war waged by Myanmar's military junta against an armed resistance intensifies around them. "There are days that we have no food, even though we are hungry," Khin Mar Cho said. "I cannot feed my kid anything more than meals donated by people because I don't have a job or income, and all the male family members have been taken away." Disturbing accounts from multiple aid workers suggest hunger is being used as a weapon of war in Rakhine state. The junta is preventing aid from reaching desperate people by imposing checkpoints, blocking roads and waterways, and refusing to issue access permits to humanitarian groups, multiple senior UN officials, local NGOs and local and international aid workers in Rakhine told CNN on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak. With help from a rural community in Iowa, archaeologists unearthed a 13,600-year-old giant mastodon fossil from an eroding creek bed.

A Michigan doctor was arrested after being accused of secretly filming the sexual abuse of women and children. In a news release, the Oakland County sheriff's office alleged that Dr. Oumair Aejaz used "hidden cameras to record children as young as age 2 and women of various ages in hospital rooms, changing areas, as well as inside closets, bathrooms and bedrooms he could access, and at an area swim club."
