Donald Trump will not be sentenced on his business fraud conviction until September, a New York judge ruled Tuesday in the wake of Monday’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity.
The delay in sentencing means that the former president is likely to escape any concrete punishment for his felony conviction during the summer, at the same time that Trump’s election bid has been boosted by President Joe Biden’s debate flop that has Democrats wondering whether to replace their nominee.
Trump was scheduled to be sentenced on July 11. Judge Juan Merchan said the former president will now be sentenced on September 18, “if such is still necessary.”
The announcement underscores the far-reaching implications of Monday’s Supreme Court ruling, in which the court’s conservative wing found that presidents have absolute immunity for “core” presidential duties.

"Trust has gone. Everyone says one thing and does the complete opposite."
Stoke-on-Trent found fortune under its feet two centuries ago, in the form of clay and coal. Now, this struggling city tells the story of British decline.
Since 2010, austerity — a severe cost-cutting program overseen by Cameron, aimed at reducing budget deficits — has chipped away at Stoke's foundations. Stoke's council nearly went bankrupt this year. Bus services have been slashed. Homelessness has risen. Community centers were closed. Nearly four in 10 children live in poverty. Ambulances often take hours to arrive, then return to a hospital that has struggled with staffing.
A high-speed railway was meanwhile meant to connect this part of the country to its economic hubs. It took time, it cost money, it caused arguments, and in the end, it never happened.
Stoke, and cities like it, could end a 14-year era of Conservative rule on Thursday. But that era has left Stoke poorer and wearier than before, and few here wonder if anyone can fix Britain.
"The country's screwed now, basically," says Mark Gibney, 40, who once ran a baby clothing shop, but now works in a pub. He walks home every day past his former business's boarded-up storefront. He looks towards his daughter. "What's it going to be like when they reach my age?"

Steve Bannon, a former Donald Trump White House strategist, reported to a federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut, on Monday to begin a four-month sentence for defying a congressional subpoena.
Bannon, the second former Trump aide to be imprisoned for a contempt of Congress conviction after Peter Navarro began serving a four-month sentence earlier this year, was taken into custody shortly after 12 p.m. ET.
He was driven into the federal prison in a black van after speaking at a podium outside the correctional facility, saying he was “proud” to go to prison.
“It’s time for me to surrender up in Danbury,” he said.

Teenage sprinting sensation Quincy Wilson is set to become the youngest ever US male track Olympian after the 16-year-old announced he had reportedly been picked in the 4x400 meter relay roster for this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Last year, when Jennifer Hernandez received notice that the mortgage payments on her Houston home would jump about $2,000 per month, she was stunned.
Hernandez refinanced her home loan in 2016 using an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) loan, which has a low introductory rate for a fixed initial period.
Unlike the more popular fixed-rate mortgage loans, ARMs can offer temporary relief for homebuyers who want to avoid paying higher mortgage rates — however, they also come with risk.
When mortgage rates increase, many ARM loan holders, like Hernandez, experience the unpleasant shock of significantly higher monthly home payments.
Hernandez, who is herself a loan officer, had misremembered the terms of her $1.1 million loan: rather than a 10/1 ARM, which has a fixed rate for the first ten years and resets every year after that, Hernandez had taken out a 7/1 loan.
“I just got caught blindsided,” she said. “Life gets in the way, and you get busy. I’ve been slammed with kids and work for the last seven years.”
“I’ve made it work, but now I’m going to have to figure out how to make it work again this October,” she said. “It’s stressful having to worry about it.”

A video-gaming Italian teenager will become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint after his cause for canonization was approved by church authorities.
Carlo Acutis, who died from leukaemia in 2006 at the age of 15, was renowned for using his computing skills to spread awareness of the Catholic faith and earned the nickname “God’s influencer.”
Being recognized as a saint in the Catholic Church can take decades, but the cause of Acutis has moved swiftly, with the teenager developing a devoted following across the world.
The church’s sainthood process normally requires that candidates have two miracles attributed to them, with each alleged supernatural occurrence requiring in-depth examination. In May, a second miracle attributed to Acutis was recognized by Pope Francis, a decision which paved the way for him to be declared a saint.

Kristof Ramon has spent almost 15 years documenting the toughest moments in professional cycling, attempting to capture the essence of the sport with all its suffering, beauty and drama as it forces riders to push the limits of human endurance.
The images in his new book — “The Art of Suffering” — thrum with emotion, whether they are depicting the joy of winning a stage at the Tour de France, the exhaustion of fending off a fan trying to take a selfie after a race, or the pain of having hands rubbed so much by handlebars that they have become bloody. This year’s Tour de France starts on June 29.
With his photographs, Ramon hopes to convey “just how deep these guys need to go to try and reach their dreams, and not all of them can.”
