The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit Tuesday accusing Visa of illegally monopolizing the debit card market. For more than a decade, the department alleges, Visa has abused its dominant position in the debit card market to force businesses to use Visa's network instead of competitors', and to stop new alternatives from entering the market. The antitrust suit is one of several major actions taken by the Justice Department recently. The department also recently filed civil suits against a real estate company that allegedly helped to artificially inflate rents across the country and another against Ticketmaster's parent company Live Nation, and convinced a judge to declare that Google violated antitrust laws with its search business. "Sadly, I also lost an investment in a company that I believed was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others and I'm sure you'll understand, while it's too late for me because I've recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's, this is also a cause dear to my heart," the quarterback said. Lebanon saw its deadliest day in nearly two decades yesterday after Israel launched airstrikes targeting the militant group Hezbollah across the country. The nearly 500 people killed on Monday alone, including dozens of children, is roughly half the number of Lebanese killed during the 34-day war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006. It is unclear how many of the casualties were Hezbollah militants. Israeli's military said it struck 1,600 Hezbollah assets, including "cruise missiles," rockets, and explosive warheads — and that the munitions were stored in civilian homes. Residents began to flee their homes after receiving text messages from Israel and calls from unknown numbers urging them to evacuate. It started with a melting glacier that set off a huge landslide, which triggered a 650-foot high mega-tsunami in Greenland last September. Then came something inexplicable: a mysterious vibration that shook the planet for nine days. Over the past year, dozens of scientists across the world have been trying to figure out what this signal was. Now, they have an answer. It's called a "cascading hazard," said Kristian Svennevig, a geologist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland. And it all started with human-caused climate change. For years, the glacier at the base of a huge mountain towering nearly 4,000 feet above Dickson Fjord had been melting, as many glaciers are in the rapidly warming Arctic. As the glacier thinned, the mountain became increasingly unstable before it eventually collapsed on September 16 last year, sending enough rock and debris tumbling into the water to fill 10,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The subsequent mega-tsunami — one of the highest in recent history — set off a wave which became trapped in the bendy, narrow fjord for more than a week, sloshing back and forth every 90 seconds.
