Why C#?
C# is huge in at least two areas:
One is for Windows desktop apps. Ever since Microsoft introduced C# and .NET around the year 2000, it's been their flagship programming language. It's still arguably the best option if you want to build a pure Windows application that uses the latest and greatest Windows APIs. Because of this it's really big in the Enterprise world - basically software that runs inside large corporations, as opposed to software that's sold to end-users.
The other is for games. Unity is by far the most popular game engine (\~50% market share, the same as all other game engines combined) and the only language you use to program Unity games is C#.
Those are just two areas, though. There are tons of other areas where you can use your choice of language and C# is often one good choice - like web back-end, for example.
