Last week recap‼️ Neurodiversity Center Ethiopia in collaboration with St.Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College and Canopy child and family mental health services had successfully conducted a 4 days long workshop on strengthening child and adolescent mental health (CAMH) services for health care professionals. This workshop aimed at reinforcing the skills and knowledge of health care professionals like psychiatric nurses and general pactitioners to deliver CAMH services at primary health care levels and sending referrals when needed.Such practices will lead to increased availability of services and therefore better addressing the issues of mental health among the age groups mentioned above. Special thanks goes to our esteemed trainers Dr. Tigist Zerihun, Dr. Fikerte Girma, Dr. Rihana Adurahman and Dr. Surafel Worku, Mr.Jemal Teshome ,Dr. Mathews Kumera and our dear trainees for their dedications in making this training a success. Cheers to more trainings and projects in Laying the ground work for Child and adolescent mental health services in Ethiopia ‼️

March 14/2024 G.C - Monthly caregivers meeting On our caregivers meeting on the month of March we had the previlage of having Mrs. Berhane Abera, who is currently working on the field of speech therapy. She gave a wonderful presentation on the role of speech therapy in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions. During our discussion the following important points were raised. 📌 It's always important to get a child with speech difficulties screened for hearing problems first. 📌  The goal of speech therapy is to enable individuals discover and learn their way of interacting with others and their environment. 📌 Speech therapy will be based on caregivers understanding of their child's behaviour and condition. 📌  We need to encourage neurodivergent children to engage (create joint attention)with their environment. 📌 Active engagement, repetition and patience/ persistence are key components of learning. Lastly we would like to thank Mrs. Berhane Abera for taking her time to be part of our discussion and St.Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College for continually supporting our works.
