Secondary Hyperparathyroidism • In CKD, hyperphosphatemia often coexists with secondary hyperparathyroidism due to disrupted calcium-phosphate balance. • Elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels further promote bone resorption and calcium-phosphate deposition in tissues, worsening vascular calcification and cardiac dysfunction. 6. Pro-Inflammatory State • Hyperphosphatemia induces systemic inflammation, which exacerbates atherosclerosis and impairs cardiac function. Clinical Implications Hyperphosphatemia is a major risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, especially in CKD patients.
