Cambridge Dictionary.
Сегодня вместе с 6 Minute English давайте подумаем о том, как to have a better night’s sleep, и как это может быть связано с едой.

Job hugging.
Job hugging -
Job hugging means staying in a job even when you could look for another one.
People do it especially when the economy is weak or companies are hiring slowly. They keep their current position because they feel it is safer, they are not sure the job market will offer something better, or they lack confidence to change.
From the outside it may look like loyalty, but inside the main reason is managing risk, not real long‑term commitment to the company.

🔹️️️️️️Roots of the celebration
Celtic origins (≈ 2 000 years ago). Pagan Celts, spread from Ireland to norther😮n France, believed that on the night before November 1st—known as Samhain—witches, demons and the spirits of the dead roamed the earth. They lit huge bonfires to scare them away and wore identical clothes to confuse the malevolent beings.
🔸️️️️️️Roman Pomona. Ancient Rome honored Pomona, the goddess of fruit and gardens, with a festival of her own.
🔸️️️️️️Christian overlay. Around 800 AD Pope Gregory IV instituted All Saints’ Day on November 1. The evening before became All Hallows’ Eve (“hallows” = holy). The name later contracted to Halloween.
🔸️️️️️️All Souls’ Day. Two centuries later the Church added All Souls’ Day, a time to pray for deceased relatives, friends and acquaintances.
🔹️️️️️️How we celebrate today
Children dressed as ghosts, witches and other spooky figures go door‑to‑door asking for “treats” (candy). If they receive none, they threaten a “trick.”
Adults often host parties, play games like bobbing for apples, and enjoy themed décor.
Although Halloween was once an American import, it has become increasingly popular across Europe in recent decades.
🔹️️️️️️Jack‑o‑lantern
A pumpkin is hollowed out, a face is carved, and a candle is placed inside. According to an old Irish tale, the name comes from a man named Jack who, after tricking the devil many times, was barred from both heaven and hell and now roams the earth with his lantern.
📚Vocabulary
to dress up — надевать костюм
to trick‑or‑treat — просить сладости
to carve — вырезать (тыкву)
to light a bonfire — разжигать костёр
Сегодня Halloween. 😊
What is Halloween?
October 31st is the day when kids and adults put on costumes, go “trick‑or‑treating,” and carve pumpkins into glowing jack‑o‑lanterns.
Side‑Hustle –
A new study by the insurance company looked at people who have a side‑hustle (a small job they do in addition to their main job).
The average side‑hustle earns £700.50 a month.
That is about £8 406 a year.
The study asked more than 1 000 people.
53 % of them say they get at least £500 each month.
27 % say they earn £1 000 or more each month.
52 % say their side‑hustle income went up over the last 12 months.
What does this mean?
A side‑hustle can give you extra money.
Many people are earning more now than a year ago, so a side‑hustle can be a good way to save or pay bills.
Simple steps to start your own side‑hustle
🔹️️️️Think about your skills – can you write, draw, fix things, teach, or make something?
🔹️️️️Look online – websites like Fiverr, Up‑work, or local Facebook groups can help you find customers.
🔹️️️️Set a small price – start with a low price to get your first jobs, then raise it later.
🔹️️️️Track your earnings – write down every payment so you can see how much you earn each month.
Quick tip
Если у вас есть хобби, try turning it into a side‑hustle.

accept
We accept the results of the climate‑impact study.
She accepted the invitation to speak at the conference.
adopt
The city adopted a zero‑waste policy for public events.
Our team adopted a new project‑management tool.
admit
The manager admitted that the deadline was unrealistic.
The museum admits visitors only after a security check.
Wild‑flower dating –
What is it?
People meet in natural places (parks, community gardens, fields) instead of fancy restaurants. The idea is like wild flowers: it looks natural, needs little care, and can appear anywhere.
How it works
🔹️️Join a short activity such as a walk, a flower‑planting event, or a picnic.
🔹️️Talk while you are doing the activity; you do not have to send many messages first.
🔹️️️️️️If you like the person, you can plan another outdoor meet‑up.
Why people like it
🔸️️️️️️It feels relaxed – no pressure to look perfect.
🔸️️️️️️The setting is easy and free; you do not need a fancy venue.
🔸️️️️️️Seeing someone care for nature shows a good value quickly.

Zillenials –
Zillenials?
(Nap‑Star, MySpace).

advice и advise:
She gave me good advice about my career.
I advise you to start saving now.
I need some advice before I decide.
He advised us to take the earlier train.
The teacher always advises her students to read carefully.
Can you give me some advice on how to improve?
I need some advise. I need some advice.
She advice me to apply. She advises me to apply.
