What an insightful session! ✨
BASA was pleased to host Ritu Vora — Architect, Computational Designer, and Researcher at EiABC for an engaging discussion on parametric architecture and computational design.
Throughout the session, we explored her projects, discussed how parametric and computational design approaches can be applied within the Ethiopian context, and gained valuable advice on exploring this evolving field.
From the Wavefront façade to fluid shell pavilion design, we looked into form generation, design processes, and installation techniques, gaining a deeper understanding of how computational thinking can translate into architectural possibilities.

BASA is taking the initiative to connect architecture students beyond Bahir Dar. 🏛️🤝
Our visit to AASTU gave us the opportunity to explore their campus, studios, and workshops, meet fellow architecture students, and experience their academic environment firsthand.
We then opened the conversation through a student panel discussion, sharing our experiences, initiatives, challenges, and lessons from building BASA and AASTU Arch Club.
this was not just a visit.
🔥 IT WAS THE START OF A COLLABORATION.
We sat together and discussed how to keep this connection active throughout the academic semester — through regular communication, knowledge exchange, joint academic activities, and opportunities for students from Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa to learn and work together.

What an insightful and inspiring experience at Beton Model Makers! 🙌
BASA students had the opportunity to go behind the scenes and explore how architectural ideas move from drawings and digital concepts into detailed physical models. From materials and fabrication techniques to craftsmanship, 3D visualization, and the overall workflow, the visit gave us a deeper understanding of the making behind architectural representation.
A special thank you to Bereket Birhanu, Founder & CEO of Beton Model Makers, for welcoming us, sharing his entrepreneurial journey, and taking the time to personally guide us through the practice. His experience and insights into building a creative business in Ethiopia made the visit even more meaningful.

We at BASA are proud and excited to be part of this initiative bringing together architecture clubs, associations leaders from universities across Ethiopia.
Representing BASA, Elias Tebabal, President of BASA, joined the discussion and shared the experiences, ideas, and lessons BASA has built over the past 3–4 years.
The meeting brought together ideas, experiences, and shared challenges, creating a foundation for a united national architecture student community. BASA has demonstrated its ability to turn small beginnings into a bigger vision—building from scratch, establishing strong structures, documenting processes, and creating meaningful results in a short period.
For BASA, this is an opportunity to connect, exchange knowledge, learn from fellow associations, and strengthen inter-university collaboration. We’re confident in what we bring to the table and excited to contribute, learn, and grow together.

One meaningful outcome of our Educational Visit was receiving a valuable collection of publications from Arch. Alebel Desta, including The Space of Resemblance, an in-depth documentation of the ET Memorial, alongside his other notable works—valuable resources for research, learning, and design inspiration.
As BASA, we see this as more than receiving books—it is building a lasting academic legacy. One copy of The Space of Resemblance will be contributed to the Bahir Dar University Library, while the remaining publications will be preserved by BASA for future generations.
This is what our initiatives are about: creating opportunities today that benefit students tomorrow—strengthening architectural learning and building meaningful connections with professionals and institutions that contribute to our university’s academic excellence.

We had the privilege of spending time with Arch. Alebel Desta, who welcomed us with remarkable warmth and openness, generously sharing his time, experience, and knowledge. His friendly approach and willingness to explain, listen, and engage made the visit a genuine exchange of knowledge and inspiration.
Through a guided tour, panel discussion, and open conversation, we explored architectural practice and design thinking, while at ZigZag Space, Arch. Alebel shared the models, materials, and experiments behind his works, highlighting physical model-making as a design tool. A major highlight was exploring the ET Memorial, from its initial concept and development to the thinking behind the final work. 🏗️📐
We were also honored to receive many journals of Arch. Alebel’s notable works, including The Space of Resemblance, documenting the ET Memorial’s design and history behined. 📚
