1. Don't rush your words.
Speaking too quickly can make your ideas difficult to understand. Slow down and pronounce each word clearly.
2. Use the Rule of Three.
Whenever possible, support your point with three elements: an explanation, an example and an outcome.
3. Avoid one-word responses.
Instead of saying "Yes, I agree", extend your answer:
"I completely agree with this statement because it highlights an important issue in our society."
4. Master the art of paraphrasing.
If you forget a particular word, explain it using simpler vocabulary rather than remaining silent.
5. Use signposting phrases.
Guide your listener through your ideas:
- To begin with...
- More importantly...
- Another aspect worth considering is...
- Having said that...
- Ultimately...
6. Turn ordinary examples into relatable ones.
Instead of giving a general example, relate your points to school activities, teenagers, social media or everyday experiences.
7. Learn to disagree politely.
Try:
"I understand your perspective; however, I would like to offer a slightly different viewpoint."
8. End with impact.
Avoid ending abruptly. Conclude your response with a meaningful sentence that reinforces your main idea.
