| 4 | I have developed an irritating and laborious habit of reading a page over and over until I truly grasp how it fits the author's overarching narrative and move forward. some of my college friends do not understand how I spend countless hours on just, say, 20-30 pages or even less whereas they are done within 2 hours.
Besides the difficulty level of books, I concede this has also something to do with my intellectual capacity, reading comprehension in this context. Nonetheless, I end up contributing relatively more to classroom discussions and, in some cases, outperforming 99% of the class (that 1% being the professor🤧).
It is also true that there are inevitable repercussions of such approach whether physiological, like fatigue, trade-offs with other course assignments, where you spend less time, or social life.
Personally, I try to squeeze everything from the academic setting and go all out as it's my ultimate priority. I realize I may not become genius in those subjects and generally in my field, but at least, I nurture the attitude of pushing myself beyond preconceived limits. that's what matters to me in college and further in life.

| 6 | On my holiday in Tashkent.
Going back to Tashkent for a month was clearly too much for me. Honestly, I had the best and worst holiday of my life. Hard to explain but I’m still dealing with the aftermath — physically and emotionally.
On the former, I got seriously sick for the second half of my visit and lost 5 kgs of weight as a result — same 5 kgs I worked my ass for during the spring semester!😂🙈
Emotionally, it wasn’t easy, yet it definitely added new edges to my personality while sharpening the existing ones. The vacation gave me most authentic and relatable moments I could ever experience. And despite everything, I’m grateful that I could go through it all thanks to the close people I have befriended, befamilied if that’s a word, in the past few years.
It’s been more than a week since I returned to campus sanctuary. I realized one thing: I cannot handle being in an uncontrolled environment for too long and campus life is slowly infusing me with a sense of control again, tranquilizing my inner self.
On College life.
I am a sophomore now and have moved to the main campus. It’s amazing here. Absolutely love it. My first year felt like studying in a high school setting in comparison😅
I have enrolled in some great courses this semester. I became TA in a class for juniors and above. The professor completed his masters and phd at Upenn and taught at small US liberal arts colleges and top Korean universities.
I’m also in a course taught by a visiting professor who is South Korea’s former foreign minister, a permanent representative to International Organizations in Vienna, and a former advisor to the UN foundation in New York.
Another professor got his bachelor’s in Columbia university, worked as an attorney in law firm’s Washington DC office, and taught at places like NUS, Georgetown University, etc. So yeah, I’ll be learning a lot, hopefully…
On top of my academics, I’m preparing to apply for study abroad and exchange programs. I’ve also signed up for a volleyball class and joined Yonsei swimming club. Next week, I hope to kick-start my gym training and normalize my meal plan. Bulking up again💪
Already made a bunch of friends in the new campus and there are more to meet with upcoming networking events and festivals in the next weeks.
Finally, my ignorance towards learning Korean has troubled me for a while. That needs to change. After all, understanding that I spent my college years in Korea, I will feel ashamed of not hitting at least an intermediate level.
That is it. I know I share very little and rarely in the channel so thanks for sticking around for no reason and reading my sudden stream of late-night thoughts😂

| 9 | My weekday routine for the past 3 weeks:
11am — wake up&shower
12:20pm — gulping my coffee while rushing to the bus
2-5pm — summer class
5pm — lunch
5:30pm — commuting back to dorm
7:30-9pm — workout
9:30-10:30pm — dinner&rest
10:30pm and onwards — hw assignments
3/4am — bedtime
For the first time ever, I am feeling addicted to coffee. And I will tell you this, it’s sickening me already.
Tomorrow, this ends!

| 11 | but they [common people] tell me that their misery means they are God’s chosen and select, after all, people beat the dogs they love best; perhaps this misery is just a preparation, a test, a training, it might be even more than that – something that will one day be balanced up and paid back with enormous interest in gold, no! in happiness. They call that “bliss.”

| 14 | What does Confucius mean by "floating clouds"?
7.16 The Master said, To eat coarse greens, drink water, and crook one’s elbow for a pillow – joy also lies therein. Wealth and high rank obtained by unrighteous means are to me like the floating clouds.
How do you interpret this aphorism?
2.15 The Master said: If you study but don’t reflect you’ll be lost. If you reflect but don’t study you’ll get into trouble.
What can we learn from this piece?
1.16 The Master said: Do not be concerned that no one recognizes your merits. Be concerned that you may not recognize others.
Why does Confucius stress on filiality? (2.5 and 2.7)
2.5 Meng Yizi asked about filiality. The Master said, “Never disobey.”
Fan Chi was driving the Master’s chariot, and the Master told him, “Meng Yizi asked me about filiality and I replied, ‘Never disobey.’” Fan Chi said, “What did you mean?” The Master said, “While they are alive, serve them according to li*. When they are dead, bury them according to li; sacrifice to them according to li.”
2.7 Ziyou asked about filiality. The Master said, “What is meant by filiality today is nothing but being able to take care of your parents. But even hounds and horses can require care. Without respectful vigilance, what is the difference?”
Why should parents be concerned only for their child's health?
2.6 Meng Wubo asked about filiality. The Master said, “Let your mother and father need be concerned only for your health.”
*Li — ritual. The Confucians meant not only ceremonies of grand religious or social occasions but also the institutions of Zhou Dynasty political culture and the norms of proper everyday conduct. | 1 658 |
| 15 | Reading The Apology by Plato has reaffirmed my belief that Socrates is Top G of all times.
So far, we have also covered Confucianism and Daoism in my summer class and are slowly shifting to Western Philosophy.
React to this message if you want me to share quotes and reflections from the readings to discuss them here as well.

| 17 | You probably wonder why I don't post much and write long-reads in the channel.
Typically, you are tasked to write dozens of papers throughout the semester, so the last thing you want to do is type more.
But, ultimately, I enjoy every moment I dedicate to crafting my essays.

Considering countless acceptances, I’ve heard of 4 scholarship recipients so far from Uzbekistan for this fall compared to only one last year.
Happy for y’all. Keep it up!
