🤩 Scientists Engineer "Mammoth-like" Woolly Mouse
Scientists at Colossal Biosciences have created a "woolly mouse" with features similar to a mammoth. The mouse has long, wavy hair and accelerated fat metabolism. According to Time, this genetic engineering success is an important step in the company's effort to bring back the extinct woolly mammoth.
Supporters say this result shows that the company's method can bring back extinct animals. However, critics argue that changing a living species is not the same as reviving a woolly mammoth, and they worry about possible problems in nature and ethical concerns when reintroducing mammoth-like animals.

🦁 Google's Wildlife AI Model
Google has open-sourced SpeciesNet, an AI model that recognizes animal species in camera trap photos with 94.5% accuracy, TechCrunch reports. Trained on over 65 million images, it can classify wildlife into over 2,000 categories, helping speed up biodiversity research and conservation.
Google's Wildlife Insights platform uses AI and cloud computing to revolutionize wildlife monitoring and anti-poaching efforts. Automating species identification can process up to 3.6 million camera trap images per hour, drastically reducing the time needed for manual analysis.

🖼️ Apple's ChatGPT-Style Siri Delayed Until 2027
Apple is working on a new version of Siri that can talk with users like ChatGPT, but it's taking longer than planned. According to Bloomberg, it probably won't be ready before 2027 because of technical problems and issues inside the company.
The delay stems from significant technical hurdles in merging two separate systems. One does simple commands, and the other gives smart AI answers. Keeping them apart causes trouble, so Apple needs more time to make them work together.
The project, internally known as "LLM Siri," users will have to wait until iOS 20 or later.

👐 OpenAI Releases GPT-4.5
OpenAI has launched its new GPT-4.5 AI model. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman notes that GPT-4.5 isn't a reasoning model, so it won't crush benchmarks. However, it handles questions better, sounds more human-like, and understands users' wants.
Other Features:
➡️ "It's a giant, expensive model," says Altman. OpenAI had trained the GPT-4.5 across several data centers at once. In the end, OpenAI ran out of free GPUs.
➡️ The model knows a lot more. In exact sciences, GPT-4.5 beats GPT-4o nearly 1.5 times and gets close to the "reasoning" o3-mini. But in coding and math, despite progress, it's still far from o3-mini.
➡️ The model hallucinates much less compared to GPT-4o and o3-mini.
➡️ Pro subscribers ($200/month) already have access, while Plus subscribers ($20/month) wait until next week.

🟠 China's Rover Found Mars Beaches
China's Zhurong rover found evidence of ancient beaches on Mars, hinting that the planet once had oceans and a habitable environment billions of years ago.
Rover detected sloping layers of sand-like material about 10 meters below the surface. Their patterns match those of beach deposits formed by waves on Earth.
These findings provide compelling evidence for persistent oceans and active coastal processes on ancient Mars, supporting theories of a warmer, wetter climate approximately 4 billion years ago.

World's First Two-Way Brain-Computer Interface
Chinese researchers have developed the first two-way adaptive brain-computer interface (BCI). This breakthrough enables seamless brain-machine communication, with both user and device learning from each other. It’s 100 times more efficient and uses 1,000 times less energy than traditional systems.
How It Works
➡️ The BCI uses a memristor-based decoder, a chip that mimics brain synapses, to process signals bidirectionally.
➡️ Users control devices like drones with four degrees of freedom (up/down, left/right, forward/backward, rotation) with just their thoughts.
➡️ Real-time feedback refines brain commands for greater accuracy.
Why It Matters
This innovation could transform healthcare (e.g., paralysis recovery), improve prosthetics, and advance human-machine collaboration in fields like gaming and robotics.
