💣 Will AI Use Nuclear Weapons?
This warning was raised by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong during open debates at the UN Security Council ⤴️
She points out that AI opens exceptional opportunities for progress in medicine, education, and peacekeeping. But without clear rules and reliable safety systems, technological advancement could destabilize society.
The threat also stems from the rapid growth of deepfakes and propaganda, as well as the increasing use of AI in military affairs.
"Decisions of life and death must never be delegated to machines," warns Wong.

🕵️♂️ The U.S. Is Developing Insect-Sized Spy Drones
Miniature robots inspired by insects are moving to the forefront of military technology. The U.S. has created the RoboBee—a tiny robot weighing less than a tenth of a gram that flaps its wings like a real fly. DARPA sees these micromachines slipping into places regular drones can't reach: under rubble, inside buildings, or disguised as insects for spy missions.
Still, America isn't the pioneer on the field. A few month ago China unveiled mosquito-sized spy drone too.

🥴 Chimpanzees' Fruit Diet Reveals Evolutionary Roots of Alcohol Consumption
A new study reveals that wild chimpanzees regularly consume naturally occurring ethanol by eating ripe tropical fruits in Africa. Researchers found that the fruit pulp making up the bulk of chimpanzee diets contains about 0.3% ethanol by weight, with each animal ingesting the equivalent of around 14 grams of ethanol per day—roughly matching 1.4 standard alcoholic drinks by international standards.
The findings add scientific support to the idea that human attraction to alcohol may trace back to evolutionary roots. Scientists note that regular ethanol intake through fruit was likely everyday for ancestral primates, suggesting our affinity for alcohol could be a biological legacy rather than a cultural accident.

🌑 NASA Considers Nuclear Weapons to Stop Asteroid Threat to the Moon.
NASA and an international team of researchers are preparing for the possibility of using nuclear weapons to prevent asteroid 2024 YR4 from striking the Moon in December 2032, according to a comprehensive new study published last month.
The 200-foot-wide space rock currently has a 4.3% chance of lunar impact. While those odds remain relatively low, the potential consequences have prompted serious consideration of nuclear disruption as the most viable intervention strategy.

🥃 Alcohol Improves Foreign Language Speech
German scientists won the 2025 Ig Nobel Prize for this discovery. The award is given annually for research that "first makes you laugh, then makes you think," several weeks before Nobel Prize winners are announced.
The experiment involved 50 Germans learning the Dutch language. Some were given vodka to reach a 0.4 per mille blood alcohol level, others got water. They then spoke Dutch for two minutes; their speech was recorded and evaluated by native speakers.
Observers rated the speech of those who drank alcohol at 61.53 points out of 100 across various criteria, while sober participants scored only 56.65.
However, scientists are not convinced that drinking more would intensify the effect.
"It's not like people were transformed into perfect Dutch speakers after a single drink," says Prof Matt Field, who worked on the study.Read More
