| 9 | Okay so y'all know that I'm a huge transmasc Kazuichi believer and Soudam shipper, right? Let's talk about that.
Kazuichi adapting to his new identity was... not an easy path. It didn't take him too long to be devoured by toxic masculinity by trying to fit himself in the stereotype or internalized homophobia. To him, to be a "man," it also came with the package of "liking girls," he couldn't accept being a man and liking a man could NOT go other for him. He was either a man who was into women, or a delusional woman thinking that way due to his ultimate. To force himself to think that way, he developed an unhealthy obsession over Sonia, which at some point he didn't know it's genuine or indoctrinate. That was all until the presence of GUNNNNDHAM TANAKA. Kazuichi started feeling... things, perhaps more than what he perceived as friendship, which all leaded him into a huge spiral of denial and thinking he CAN'T like him. Because, in his view, if he did, he would think he's just a woman in denial. But that also... didn't click right with him. If he's thinking like this about himself, would that mean he would see other people in his situation the same way? And that made him feel even worse. He kept sticking to Sonia because he KNEW that Gundham liked her (compared to Kazuichi, at least) and he wanted be her sooo bad, but also he did not want to be a woman like Sonia is. That made him confuse being LIKE Sonia with being WITH Sonia (and being Sonia herself), which dragged him even lower in terms of obsessing over her. It was all going pretty bad, and he needed insight, someone to guide him a little in this matter. There it was, Mahiru (our woke non-binary lesbian icon!), helping him to view things better and think more clearly, WHICH is the peak of his character development. Then, it all goes back to GUNNNNDHAM TANAKA—or better said, a confession happens. Noting that Gundham wasn't also at his wokest state and haven't had his gender or sexuality discovered (and living in a cishet normative world), it... doesn't go well. He can only give Kazuichi a few words, "if only you were a girl." After that, everything gets worse for Kazuichi. He's stuck in a huge dilemma between prioritizing his gender identity and true self, OR pretending to be something he's not for the sake of his love interest. He thinks about it for a while (and [dr2 chap2 spoilers//] RIP Mahiru, he had no one to share his troubles with anymore) and eventually... tries talking to Gundham once more. This time, he tells him even further; tells him that he's a trans guy, maybe this would... change Gundham's mind a little bit. Though, Gundham's response was "Okay, so what? You're still a guy." THAT bit awakens something in Kazuichi regarding his identity and acceptance, leading to him prioritizing his OWN identity. Regardless of that (and after apologizing to Sonia), Gundham and Kazuichi stayed friends. Gundham didn't really like to push himself into cishet norms despite how everyone is brainwashed to grow up with cishetnormative beliefs. If someone asked Gundham his gender, he would say some obnoxious stuff like "I am ABOVE gender you PUNY MORTAL." Truth is, that's what he really felt, but he didn't know that there might be labels he could resonate with. Kazuichi being progressively more open about his queerness, inspired Gundham into researching more about labels. Eventually he started using pangender to express his gender identity and rejected monosexuality and other cishetnormative propaganda, making him realize he actually does NOT need Kazuichi to be a girl so they could be together happily—to which I believe this brings them to the happy ending they deserve. | 93 |
