Thailand just proposed sweeping new restrictions on stablecoin transfers. Thailand's SEC proposed capping stablecoin transfers at roughly $151,000 per day, per person, through licensed platforms. Deposits and withdrawals would only be allowed between wallets verified as belonging to the same customer, blocking transfers to family, business partners, or any third-party wallet. Regulated platforms following Thailand's upcoming Travel Rule get an exemption. Regulators say it's aimed at curbing money laundering and stablecoin use to dodge banking disclosures. Public consultation runs until September 25.

GLOBAL POWER SHIFTS ARE GETTING HARDER TO IGNORE. Mark Carney told the European Parliament today that the world is facing a "ferocious storm," saying "a single tree will come down in it. A forest will not." His message was about Canada and Europe becoming more economically and strategically resilient together amid trade pressure, geopolitical tension and growing competition over technology, critical minerals and payment systems. And this goes beyond politics. For Bitcoin, XRP and the broader crypto market, rising trade tensions and changes to the global financial system can matter through liquidity, currencies, interest rates, investor risk appetite and the future of cross-border payments. Carney specifically identified secure access to payment infrastructure as part of modern economic sovereignty. That does not mean his "forest" comment was literally a threat toward President Trump; in the full speech, it was a metaphor for countries becoming stronger through cooperation. But the wider Canada-EU-U.S. tension is very real, and crypto traders should be watching the macro picture closely.

BRICS-5 VS USA - NUCLEAR SUBMARINE POWER The combined nuclear-powered submarine fleets of the five major BRICS countries-China, Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa-provide a striking comparison with the United States. Russia operates the largest nuclear-submarine fleet within BRICS, with roughly 41 nuclear-powered submarines, while India operates 3. China also maintains a growing nuclear-powered submarine fleet. Brazil and South Africa currently operate no nuclear-powered submarines. Combined, the BRICS-5 countries have approximately 44 nuclear-powered submarines, compared with around 67 operated by the United States. The U.S. fleet includes nuclear-powered ballistic-missile submarines (SSBNs), attack submarines (SSNs) and guided-missile submarines (SSGNs), giving Washington a highly developed undersea nuclear-deterrence and global power-projection capability.

In late 2023, Orlen Trading Switzerland, the trading arm of Poland's state-owned energy company Orlen, agreed to buy 6 million barrels of Venezuelan crude from a Dubai-based intermediary during Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 weekend. Orlen transferred $230 million without collateral or a guarantee, with the funds converted to USDT and delivered to Venezuela through intermediaries using USB drives containing crypto wallet access.
