| 2 |  Five men have been reported dead in a tragic collision involving two vehicles at around 5pm this afternoon ( Thursday 08/05/26) at Bitavavar ward on the outskirts of Kokopo Town.
The accident involved a loaded oil palm truck (Las Ples) and a PMV truck (Mori) from Riet in the Warangoi area.
Eye witnesses have reported that the oil palm truck was intending to overtake another vehicle along a curve when it ran into the oncoming PMV.
Police confirmed, the driver of the oil palm truck was intoxicated.
Fifteen minutes after the tragedy, NBC arrived at the scene to confirm five fatalities on the PMV, all males - including the driver, the crew in front and three passengers who were seated at the back.
While the oil palm truck’s crew managed to flee the scene, the driver was apprehended and brought into police custody.
Police personnel, members of the St. John Ambulance and the PNG Fire Service are currently at the scene to retrieved the bodies of the five deceased. | 1 490 |
