This disproportionate and violent response to peaceful protests is a clear violation of human rights and an affront to the principles of justice and equality. In response to these grave injustices, the Ethiopian Islamic Supreme Council called for a general assembly and formed a committee to engage in dialogue with the government, desperately hoping for a peaceful resolution. However, their invitations were rejected, and the demolitions and violence against innocent Muslims persist. Most alarmingly, on the day when no protests were planned, the government security forces were heavily armed and positioned on various buildings, taking aim with snipers at Muslims peacefully leaving the mosque after prayer. This act of terror and tragedy resulted in the horrific deaths of over five innocent Muslims, including students, and left numerous men and women injured. Moreover, many Muslims were arbitrarily detained en masse. Ambulances and doctors were denied access to provide medical treatment to the injured, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. This blatant disregard for human life and the obstruction of medical aid is unequivocally a war crime that must not go unnoticed. To add to the anguish, the deceased have not been given a dignified burial, and those unjustly imprisoned remain behind bars without due process.
