. [Q]: Is there a difference in reward between reading the Qur'an from the Mushaf or reciting from memory? If I read the Qur'an from the Mushaf, is it acceptable to read with my eyes only or must I also move my lips? Is it sufficient to move the lips, or must there also be some sound? Sh.lbn Baz: I do not know of any evidence to suggest that there is a difference between reading from the Mushaf or reciting from memory; rather what is prescribed is to reflect and focus, whether one reads from the Mushaf or recites from memory. It can only be called recitation if it can be heard; it is not sufficient just to look with the eyes, or to think of the words without uttering them. The Sunnah is for the reader to utter the words and reflect, as Allah says: {{"[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded." [Sad (38):29]}}, and He also says: {{"Do they not then think deeply in the Qur'an, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?" [Muhammad (47):24]}. If reciting from memory will help one to focus more and reflect more on the Qur'an, then that is better; if reading from the Mushaf will help one to focus more and reflect more, then that is better. 📖Majmu` Fatawa Ash-Shaykh Ibn Baz 24/352

Shaykh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The believer should ponder the meanings, i.e., he should pay attention to reading and think about what it means; he should understand the meanings and thus he will benefit from it. If he does not understand the meaning perfectly, he will still understand many meanings. So let him read carefully and ponder and understand. This also applies to women. The reader should benefit from the words of his or her Lord and understand the meaning so that he may act upon it. Allah says: {{"Do they not then think deeply in the Qur'an, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it)?" [Muhammad (47):24]}} our Lord (Glorified and Exalted be He) urges and encourages us to think and ponder His words. When the believer, man or woman, reads the Book of Allah, it is prescribed for them to ponder and think and pay attention to what is read, so that they may benefit from the words of Allah and so that they may understand the words of Allah and so that they may act upon what they learn from the words of Allah. 📖Fatawa Nur 'ala ad-Darb 1/332

Why Does Allaah Almighty Mention Wealth Before Children?

Question: In the Qur’aan, why is wealth always mentioned before children, despite children being worth more to a father than his wealth? And what is the wisdom behind this? Answer: Because wealth helps one to fulfill unlawful desires, the temptations of wealth are greater. The opposite is the case with children. Although a person may be tried in regard to them, and disobey Allaah because of them, but the temptations from wealth are more and worse. Allaah Almighty says: وَمَآ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُم بِٱلَّتِى تُقَرِّبُكُمْ عِندَنَا And it is not your wealth, nor your children that bring you nearer to Us (i.e. pleases Allâh) [Saba' 34:37] He also said: إِنَّمَآ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَأَوْلَٰدُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌۚ Your wealth and your children are only a trial [At-Taghabun 64:15] And: لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَٰدُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِۚ Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allah.
