Leptospirosis ⭐ Leptospirosis is a zoonotic bacterial infection caused by Leptospira species. ⭐ Humans can contract the disease through direct contact with water, soil, or food contaminated with urine of infected animals, particularly rodents. ⭐ Spread through: Activities include farming, working in sewage systems, swimming in contaminated water, and handling animals. ⭐ Symptoms: Fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, Jaundice, meningitis, liver and respiratory issues. ⭐ Leptospirosis is diagnosed through blood tests, urine tests, and sometimes PCR ⭐ Can be treated with antibiotics like doxycycline or penicillin ⭐ Leptospirosis is more common in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly after heavy rainfall or flooding. ⭐ Leptospirosis can lead to severe complications like Weil's disease (a severe form with jaundice and kidney failure), meningitis, and even death.
