🍅 The lazy way I preserve our summer tomato harvest
When you have more tomatoes than you can eat fresh, stop simmering them for hours on a hot stove. This is the easiest way to save them for later with zero boiling required.
Wash tomatoes, remove stems, and cut into chunks.
Blend until completely smooth.
Pour the pulp into a container with a bottom spout or spigot and leave it in the fridge overnight.
By the next day, the pulp separates from the excess water, which settles at the bottom. Simply drain the water, then ladle the thick tomato pulp into bags to freeze.
I use this thick pulp all winter for quick sauces, soups, and stews.
Don’t throw away the tomato water!It is packed with intense flavor.
You can:
Add it to soups, stews, or risotto.
Use it to cook rice or grains.
Freeze it in ice cube trays for cooking later.

Check for external parasites, skin irritation, diarrhoea that soils the feathers, or pecking by other birds. Severe cases may involve wounds.
4️⃣ FEATHER LOSS ON THE HEAD AND CROWN 🐔
Possible causes include pecking, fighting, parasites and skin problems. Check whether the affected chicken is being bullied by other birds.
5️⃣ PATCHY FEATHER LOSS ACROSS THE BODY 🪶
Moulting is a natural process in which chickens replace old feathers. However, uneven bald patches may also indicate feather pecking, parasites, poor nutrition or other health problems.
6️⃣ FEATHER LOSS ON THE CHEST AND ABDOMEN 🐓
This may occur during broodiness when a hen develops a brood patch, or from repeated contact with nesting surfaces. Parasites and pecking are other possibilities.
⚠️ IMPORTANT, FARMERS!
Feather loss patterns are clues, not a diagnosis. Several conditions can produce similar signs.
✅ Inspect the skin and feathers for lice and mites.
✅ Provide a balanced feed with adequate protein and essential nutrients.
✅ Reduce overcrowding and investigate feather pecking.
✅ Keep housing clean, dry and well ventilated.
✅ Seek veterinary advice if the problem spreads, the skin becomes wounded, or birds lose weight or appear unwell.
